Former Husband of Rep. Lauren Boebert Arrested on Weapons and Assault Charges, Adding to the Ongoing Drama Surrounding the Congresswoman

Jayson Boebert, the former husband of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), was taken into custody on Tuesday, facing six charges that include prohibited use of weapons, third-degree assault, and obstructing a peace officer, according to records from the Garfield County jail.

The arrest follows an incident that occurred three days prior when Jayson Boebert contacted the police, alleging a physical altercation between him and the congresswoman at a restaurant in her district. According to The Daily Beast, Jayson Boebert claimed that she repeatedly struck him in the face.

It remains unclear whether Tuesday’s arrest is related to the events of that Saturday or if it involves a separate incident.

Alongside the assault, weapons, and obstruction charges, Jayson Boebert is also facing charges of harassment, disorderly conduct, and third-degree trespassing, all of which are classified as misdemeanors, except for trespassing, which is considered a petty offense under Colorado law. Petty offenses can carry a penalty of up to 10 days in jail, a fine, or both.

A representative from the Garfield County jail confirmed the charges, Jayson Boebert’s arrest, and his subsequent release on $2,500 bail earlier in the day.

Jayson Boebert has not provided any comment regarding the incident.

The couple, who had been married for 18 years and has four children, closed their restaurant, and finalized their divorce last year. In September, Lauren Boebert became a national punchline after denying allegations of lude and sexual behavior with her new boyfriend during a family friendly musical adaptation of ‘Beetlejuice,’ only for security footage to contradict her statements later.

Subsequently, Boebert issued an apology, acknowledging the stress caused by the divorce and stating, “There’s no perfect blueprint for going through a public and difficult divorce.” She expressed remorse for the unwanted attention her actions brought to her community.

Boebert narrowly won reelection in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District in 2022 by a little more than 500 votes.

In recent weeks, after “seat shopping” and realizing she was going to lose her previous seat, Boebert announced that she plans to run in CD4 in 2024. In her announcement, Boebert said the alleged incident over the weekend is “another reason I’m moving.”

The recent arrest of Jayson Boebert adds yet another chapter to the ongoing drama that seems to follow the congresswoman wherever she goes. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how it will impact Rep. Lauren Boebert’s standing in her district and her ability to effectively represent her constituents – past or future.
