Devotional: Embracing a consistent faith to find true sanity

By Drake Hunter | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice

As I represented Rocky Mountain Voice at the Colorado State Fair, I was blessed to encounter a rich tapestry of perspectives and viewpoints. This experience prompted me to reflect on the importance of maintaining a rational and profound approach to life.

Some individuals skillfully juggle multiple roles and responsibilities, while others constantly shift their perspectives to fit various situations. This contrast highlighted the distinction between wisdom and instability, or even foolishness.

The idea of continually changing one’s worldview felt similar to switching heads instead of hats— an exhausting endeavor that reflects a desire to meet whims, the expectations of others or the world. This brought to mind the image of the seven-headed monster described in Revelation 12, which symbolizes chaos and opposition to God. In this setting, such a fragmented existence represents not sanity but confusion or insanity.

Sanity within the Christian worldview is characterized by stability and truth, guiding us toward a fulfilling life for all. It embodies wholeness, moral clarity and right relationships with God and others. Through Jesus, we find healing from the effects of mistakes or sin, embracing a holistic approach that nurtures mental, emotional, spiritual and aesthetic well-being. Our faith, which weaves divine and earthly realities together, is crucial in maintaining this sanity. Anything contrary to this holy order may lead us away from wisdom and into folly, causing arrogant authorities or monsters to rule.

Insanity often arises when our minds and hearts are misaligned with the life intended for us, as depicted in Genesis 1 & 2. A harmonious mind and heart grounded in a consistent right, just and fair worldview is essential (Proverbs 4). Straying into various conflicting perspectives can lead to emotional turmoil and mental distress. A harmonious and unified worldview integrates our beliefs about God, humanity, morality, purpose and the future, all anchored in the teachings of Jesus Christ. It shapes our interactions with the world, providing a lens through which we can navigate life’s challenges and opportunities, all while seeking goodness and harmony with God, others and creation.

What is the solution to the struggles we face? Similar to the man possessed by demons in Mark 5:1-20, who recognized Jesus as the Son of the Most High God and ran to him in desperation, we too must turn to Jesus.

When Jesus encountered the man, he commanded the unclean spirits to leave, leading to a miraculous healing and restoration of sanity. This powerful healing and restoration performed by Jesus is not just a beacon of hope but a source of inspiration for us all. Following Jesus is our path to resolution; His unwavering perspective illuminates our lives and dispels confusion, guiding us away from misguided worldviews, chaotic influences and the seven-headed monster that hinders our attitudes and hearts.

Today, let’s wear the many hats that represent our roles and responsibilities on the one head of Christ we cultivate in our minds rather than the other way around, which is a monstrous way to live, no matter how you look at it.

Right now, I invite you to embrace this journey of faith. Your role is crucial. Seek to align your thoughts and actions with the teachings of Jesus, and allow His truth to bring clarity and stability to your life. Let us run to Him, seeking healing and wholeness, as we collectively strive for a life that reflects His love and righteousness.

Together, we can overcome the chaos and find true sanity in Christ. This is not just a call to action but a call to a life of purpose and meaning guided by Jesus. Your presence and commitment are important and integral to our society’s faith journey.
