Mesa County to Secretary Griswold: ‘This is our community and our investigation’

The Mesa County elections office is investigating a potential case of election fraud, Mesa County Clerk Bobbie Gross announced Thursday, just moments after a press release vividly detailing the case was sent to the media from Secretary of State Jena Griswold’s office.

“While we understand the secretary of state’s desire to make public statements, this is our community and our investigation,” Gross said.

Thirteen minutes earlier, Griswold had released specific information pertaining to the investigation and a statement to the media.

“It is critical that we follow proper procedures to ensure a thorough and effective investigation without tipping off those involved,” Gross said. “The people of Mesa County deserve transparency and accountability, but it must be done in a manner that protects the integrity of the investigation.”

In an effort not to negatively impact the Mesa County investigation, the Rocky Mountain Voice is not sharing the detailed information of fraud reported to the media by Griswold.

“I am fully committed to ensuring the integrity and security of our elections,” Gross said. “Our priority is to handle this investigation with the utmost care and diligence, and I believe that prematurely releasing details could compromise our ability to hold those responsible accountable.”

The statement from Gross asked for “patience” as election officials work the investigation.

“We will share more information when it is responsible to do so,” Gross said. “We thank the public for their understanding as we prioritize the security of our elections and the rule of law. I am committed to transparency and will provide updates as the situation evolves.”
