A Town Hall meeting featuring 4th District U.S. Rep. Greg Lopez, R-Parker, will take place from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Message of Life Ministries, 605 18th St. SW in Loveland. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Lopez was selected by voters in June, through a special vacancy election, to complete the unexpired term of U.S. Rep. Ken Buck, R-Windsor, by defeating Democrat Trisha Calvarese by 24% in a landslide victory of 41,082 votes.
During his time in office, Lopez has sponsored four pieces of legislation. House Resolution 9761, introduced by Lopez on Sept. 23, would amend the tax code to allow an increased limit for Section 179 property placed in farming service by an individual. HR 9657, introduced by Lopez on Sept. 18 and co-sponsored by U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, would allow for the detention and removal of illegal aliens belonging to international criminal gangs. HR 9504, introduced by Lopez on Sept. 9, would require information on the national debt be published on election ballots with races for federal office. HR 1459, introduced by Lopez on Sept. 17, would express to the states the disapproval of Congress for ranked-choice voting because of unnecessary complication and disenfranchisement. Ranked-choice voting is a proposition on the Colorado ballot this fall.
The invitation to the Town Hall received by the Rocky Mountain Voice asks residents of the 4th District to “come together with community members to discuss important local issues, share ideas and hear updates.” It indicates the Town Hall is an opportunity to “voice concerns, ask questions and participate in shaping the future.”
Lopez is not seeking election to a full term in the U.S. House of Representatives. In the Nov. 5 general election, Republican Boebert will face Democrat Calvarese for the 4th District seat in the U.S. House. Boebert won the Republican nomination in June by a landslide of 29.4% against a field of five other candidates, a field that at one point included a dozen candidates for the nomination. Calvarese narrowly defeated Ike McCorkle, who had won the past two Democratic Party nominations for the seat and ultimately lost to Buck in 2020 and 2022. Lopez will serve the district until the winner of the general election is seated in January. The 4th District is rated as a plus-13 Republican district by Cook Political Report, one of the more conservative districts in the nation.
