Garbo: Biden’s autopen scandal—who was really running the country?

By C. J. Garbo | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice

The recent revelation that an autopen was used to affix President Joe Biden’s signature on numerous executive orders, pardons, and other documents of national consequence is a scandal of seismic proportions.

If proven true, this practice strikes at the very heart of the legitimacy of executive authority and raises grave constitutional concerns that demand immediate and thorough investigation.

The use of a machine-generated signature to execute the powers vested solely in the President of the United States by the Constitution is not merely a matter of procedural convenience – it is a fundamental betrayal of the American people and the democratic principles upon which this nation was founded.

The Constitution’s framers were explicit in their intent to vest executive power in a single, elected individual, ensuring direct accountability to the electorate. Article II, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution mandates that executive power shall be vested in a President of the United States, elected by the people through their representatives.

The purpose of this was clear: to prevent unelected officials or shadow figures from wielding the immense powers of the executive branch. The use of an autopen not only undermines this intent but suggests a far darker reality – that someone other than the duly elected President may have been making decisions of monumental national importance.

The implications of this are nothing short of terrifying. If executive orders, pardons, and other actions were signed without President Biden’s direct involvement, then the very validity of those actions comes into question.

Who was truly governing the nation?

Was it a cadre of unelected bureaucrats or political operatives operating in the shadows?

If true, this constitutes an unparalleled usurpation of power and a direct assault on the very nature of our constitutional republic.

Legally, the case is even more damning. The Presidential Records Act and the Federal Records Act require that documents executed by the President must reflect his or her direct and intentional actions. A machine-generated signature not only fails to meet this standard but also raises criminal liability for those who knowingly facilitated or covered up this deception.

In essence, we may be looking at a case of forgery perpetrated at the highest levels of government – an act that, if proven, would render every action taken under such false pretenses null and void.

The American people must demand to know the truth.

Congressional investigations must be launched immediately, subpoenas issued, and testimony compelled from every individual involved in the decision to use an autopen in this manner. The Department of Justice cannot sit idly by while the legitimacy of the executive branch is called into question. The very fabric of our democracy depends on transparency, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law.

Moreover, the Democrat Party must be held accountable.

If this was indeed a coordinated effort to conceal the President’s incapacity or absence, then it amounts to nothing less than a coup by administrative fiat. The implications for our republic are catastrophic. This is no longer about partisan politics; it is about preserving the sovereignty of the people and the sanctity of our democratic institutions.

The American people deserve an answer to a simple but profound question: Who was truly making the decisions that have affected every aspect of their lives over the past years? Until this question is answered fully and transparently, every action taken by this administration must be viewed with the utmost suspicion. We cannot allow our republic to be commandeered by unelected figures wielding power behind a mechanical signature.

This scandal, if left unaddressed, will set a dangerous precedent that future administrations could exploit. It is a betrayal of trust that demands accountability, resignations, and, if necessary, criminal prosecutions. The American people will not be placated by half-hearted explanations or deflections.

We must accept nothing less than the full truth, no matter how damning it may be.

In the words of Thomas Jefferson, “When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty.” It is now the duty of every American, every elected official, and every institution committed to the rule of law to demand answers. The integrity of our republic, the faith of the American people in their government, and the legacy of our Founders demand nothing less.
