As he debates the policy of the day in Washington, D.C., U.S. Rep. Jeff Crank, R-Colo. Springs, has an eye on Colorado’s General Assembly.
He’s concerned with the passage of Colorado Senate Bill 25-003 out of the Senate and to the House. The bill would prohibit the transfer, sale or purchase of a semiauto firearm not on a government-approved list and not without the taking and passage of government-prescribed classes some gun owners call a “permission slip”. It has been called the most extreme gun bill in the country’s history.
Rep. Ryan Armagost, the co-founder of the House’s Second Amendment Caucus, and Rocky Mountain Gun Owners have said the bill could be heard in the House’s Judiciary Committee March 11 or 12, although it has not been added to the calendar as of yet.

“I’m totally opposed to it [SB 3],” Crank said, when asked about the bill during his first tele-town hall as a member of Congress. Because it is a state bill and Crank serves in the U.S. House, he can simply voice his concern, Crank said.
He noted “the Colorado Legislature has gotten radical against the Second Amendment and guns,” and specifically notes SB 3 as “just unconstitutional”.
Crank’s strong Second Amendment position is not one which has recently been formed since he was elected in November to public office.
“I’ve been a gun owner and outdoorsman my entire live,” Crank said. “This is not a freedom that came from our Founders, our founders say it came from God.”
He’s concerned the law would make it “more difficult” for “law-abiding families to defend themselves.” Crank made his position clear: “When it comes to banning lawfully owned firearms, I’m against it.”
Colorado and other states, Crank says, should honor the U.S. Constitution: “Your right to protect yourself does not end or begin at the state line. They exist for all of us.”
He concluded by offering whatever help he might to defeat SB 3 in Colorado.
