Good News or Fake News — Love: The News That Changes Everything

By Drake Hunter | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice

Hope taught us patience. Peace showed us strength. Joy revealed how to move forward. Now, as we conclude our Advent Series, we focus on its core: Love. Not the sentimental version. Not the weaponized form. Not the diluted kind sold by culture, commerce, or clicks. Instead, love with meaning. Love with purpose. Love with identity. And once again—because everything depends on this—we revisit the key question of this Advent series: “What is guiding who you are—the Good News or the fake news?”

Ultimately, the source you trust will determine how you love.

If most pause to consider reality, it ultimately boils down to one concept: LOVE. This is the fulfillment of the genuine story.

Fake news diminishes love to mere emotion, preference, or control. Good News uncovers love as presence, sacrifice, and active truth.

That’s why Christmas isn’t mainly about a birth story. It’s about God’s arrival—not shouting from heaven nor ruling from above, but entering the human story—completely, humbly, and personally. That’s love.

Christmas is not just a concept; it presents us with a Person—Christ. He offers us a face rather than a symbol, metaphor, or mascot for a cause. Jesus Christ embodies love—a love that enters into time, unveils meaning, and opens the door to eternity.

This difference distinguishes actual news from fake news: Fake news alters stories to manipulate control, while Good News seeks to restore humanity. Christ does not manipulate fear; He absorbs it. He does not incite division; He heals it. He does not shy away from suffering; He redeems it. This is not spin; it’s truth love.

Love is inherently strong, not soft. Christmas love isn’t delicate but resilient, blending truth and grace. It refuses to dehumanize others and chooses restoration over cancellation. Love doesn’t shout; it shows up. It’s what occurs when hope is embodied, peace takes hold, and joy spills into the world. That’s why love is the final candle—not just an extra, but the essence of the entire story, illuminated by Christ’s light throughout.

Where Christmas and reality meet. Let’s face it: Our world is exhausted. Our nation is divided. Our headlines are burdensome. Yet—into this imperfect world, not a sanitized one—Christ arrives. Not with an army. Not with anger. But with love powerful enough to uphold truth, endure suffering, and invite people into life. This is not fake news. This is the most genuine good news ever.

The news that continues to impact lives. As we enter the New Year, here’s the final and most vital question in the series: “Is your view of love influenced by the noise of the world or by the presence of Christ?” Genuine love fuels hope, fosters lasting peace, spreads joy, and restores humanity to wholeness. This isn’t just nostalgia or religion—it’s real, and more importantly, it’s Good News, real GOOD NEWS.

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” ~ 1 John 4:9

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. May you live guided by the Good News, grounded in truth, and led by genuine love.
