Sheriffs and prosecutors rally behind Michael Allen for attorney general, cite courtroom experience

A handful of sheriffs and district attorneys from different parts of the state have come out in support of Fourth Judicial District Attorney Michael Allen, today, as he campaigns for Colorado attorney general. The endorsements focus on his years spent in actual courtrooms prosecuting cases and the way he’s managed to cut back on some crimes in his district.

The endorsements share his ideals of real trial experience, cracking down on offenders and keeping partisan battles out of the attorney general’s office.

“I’m honored to earn the support of these respected law enforcement leaders and prosecutors who have dedicated their careers to public safety. They know what it takes to hold criminals accountable and keep communities safe,” Allen said. “As Attorney General, I will stay focused on backing public safety, enforcing the law, and getting politics out of an office that exists to protect the people of Colorado.”

Brauchler, who’s DA in the 23rd District these days, mentioned some of the frustrations bubbling up statewide. “Colorado has long suffered with an offender-friendly approach to public safety that serves to increase our cost of living, while lowering our quality of life,” Brauchler said. “Michael Allen has spent a career defending Coloradans from crime by holding criminals accountable.”

“Our state has experimented with having a hyper political AG with no courtroom experience. We deserve better. Get politics out of the AG’s office. Let’s vote for experience and character,” Brauchler added.

Roybal brought up Allen’s efforts on behalf of people hurt by crime. “It is my privilege to support Michael Allen for Colorado Attorney General. I have witnessed Michael fight for victims in the courtroom and the legislature,” Roybal said. “He stands for Colorado families and will bring this same tenacity to the state level.”

Kellner drove home why background matters. “It is imperative the next Attorney General has experience. As District Attorney, Michael Allen has shown an unwavering commitment to public safety and the rule of law,” Kellner said. “He has led high-profile prosecutions with professionalism, discipline, and sound judgment—ensuring criminals are held accountable and justice is served. His experience and leadership make him uniquely qualified, and I am proud to endorse Michael Allen for Colorado Attorney General.”

Reams focused on measurable outcomes and what he sees as the consequences of the attorney general’s current approach. “For the past seven years, Colorado’s Attorney General has focused on politically motivated lawsuits instead of prioritizing the safety of Colorado families. As a result, our state has become one of the least safe in the nation. Michael Allen is a prosecutor with real court room experience,” Reams said. “His main priority is keeping our communities safe and holding criminals accountable. He’s produced actual results: successfully prosecuting high-profile cases, reducing motor vehicle theft by 30 percent, and taking on organized crime head-on. As the Sheriff of Weld County, I am proud to put my full support behind Michael Allen for Colorado Attorney General. He is the only candidate with the experience, resolve, and proven record needed to put criminals behind bars and make Colorado a safe place to live again.”

Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly had already put his name behind Allen earlier this month, standing with him on stage when he launched his attorney general campaign. “I’ve known Michael Allen for many years and I’m proud to call him a friend. As a District Attorney, he’s demonstrated strong judgment, real leadership, and a clear commitment to the rule of law and public safety. Michael Allen is the clear choice for Attorney General of Colorado.”

Allen has returned to the same reference points as the race has taken shape, grounding his pitch in his work as a career prosecutor and the cases his office has handled, from vehicle theft and organized crime to violent crime and fentanyl. In El Paso and Teller counties, where he is serving a second term as district attorney, his office pairs prosecutors and investigators on auto theft cases, which Allen says has helped bring the numbers down.

Last week, Allen named former Colorado Attorney General John Suthers as campaign chair, a move that aligns with his emphasis on law enforcement experience.

Allen, who is married with kids, sees the race as an opportunity to get the attorney general’s office refocused on regular families—dealing with how crime jacks up daily expenses and choosing real enforcement instead of lawsuits driven by politics.
