Gov. Jared Polis on Wednesday signed the first law of the 2024 session — a throwback to a measure from the 2023 session that got tangled up in a lawsuit from a Republican lawmaker.

House Bill 1084 would double the size of the earned income tax credit for low income Coloradans.

The measure, a do-over from last year, intends to repeal and replace House Bill 23B-1002, which is now the subject of a lawsuit from Rep. Scott Bottoms, R-Colorado Springs.

Bottoms alleged he was denied an opportunity to have the bill read at length during the special session, and he sued the governor and House Speaker Julie McCluskie of Dillon. No hearing has yet been set for that lawsuit.
