Polls show Republican momentum, Democrat doubts as Colorado’s 2026 battle lines form

By RMV Staff | Rocky Mountain Voice Unaffiliated voters now make up nearly half of Colorado’s electorate – and both parties are fighting to find a winning message. With the 2026 midterms on the horizon, several new polls offer an early glimpse into Colorado's shifting political terrain. A recent survey of 987 likely Colorado Republican primary voters, conducted by Pulse Opinion Research for the Road to Red Initiative from March 14–19, offers a snapshot of voter sentiment heading into the 2026 midterms. Among these voters, optimism runs high. Fifty-nine percent say the country is headed in the right direction – and 69% give Trump strong marks for his time in office. The Republican advantage extends beyond Trump himself. If voters were casting ballots in congressional races to...

Turning Point USA launches at Valor Christian: Courage, character, and a little wild West spirit

By RMV Staff | Rocky Mountain Voice It was more than just another Tuesday morning at Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado—it was a full-on Turning Point. Nearly 50 students, faculty, and guests gathered for the official launch of Valor’s new Turning Point USA chapter, and let’s just say, the energy was more electric than a Bronco game on a Sunday afternoon. Gabby Reichardt, the Rockies High School Field Representative for Turning Point USA, called the launch a personal milestone. “I'm super proud to have a chapter at Valor as my alma mater and it was definitely a target school of mine for a long time.” She added, “Having a community surrounding the students who want to help support the chapter is really great. And that's definitely part of our broader high school ...

Colorado Democrats ram through radical immigration bill with last-minute amendments

By Rocky Mountain Voice Staff In a move that’s drawing outrage from conservatives and constitutional advocates alike, Colorado Senate Democrats passed Senate Bill 25-276, a sweeping immigration “protection” bill, after rushing through five major amendments on third reading—sidestepping standard legislative norms and undermining federal immigration enforcement in the name of “civil rights.” Democrats hailed the bill as a firewall against what they call "mass deportation policies" under President Trump. But critics argue it's the most pro-illegal immigration legislation in Colorado history—and that it was pushed through without transparency, proper debate, or concern for the rule of law. “We are proceeding into debate around a very important bill,” said Sen. Paul Lundeen (R) during ...

Colorado’s fentanyl crisis exposes a deadly failure of leadership

By Rocky Mountain Voice Staff A newly released report from Advance Colorado lays bare the devastating human cost of Colorado’s fentanyl crisis—and the state policies that helped fuel it. Titled “Communities in Ruin: The Human Cost of Fentanyl in Colorado,” the report delivers a searing indictment of legislative decisions made over the past six years—starting with a 2019 law that downgraded possession of deadly narcotics like fentanyl to a misdemeanor.  That’s when possession of up to four grams—enough to kill 1,500 people—started being treated like a minor infraction. Four years later, the state’s fentanyl-related overdose deaths have exploded by 440%, jumping from 222 deaths in 2019 to over 1,200 in 2023. “Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18 t...

Parents and Pastors Rally at Capitol to Stop HB25-1312 from Becoming Law

By Rocky Mountain Voice Staff A coalition of pastors, parents, and constitutional advocates will gather Thursday on the West Steps of the Colorado State Capitol to oppose HB25-1312, the controversial “Kelly Loving Act” that critics say represents a direct attack on parental rights, religious liberty, and free speech. The event—organized by Fight 1312, a Colorado-based grassroots movement—will begin with a rally and prayer walk at 1:00 PM, followed by a press conference at 2:30 PM featuring local faith leaders and conservative advocates, including former Trump appointee William Wolfe. “HB25-1312 is an attack on parental rights, free speech, and the ability of families to raise their children according to their values,” said Pastor J. Chase Davis, one of the event organizers and Lea...

Can the America-First movement win in Colorado? Heidi Ganahl and Rasmussen pollster break down Colorado’s GOP identity crisis

By Rocky Mountain Voice Staff With Colorado’s 2026 elections on the horizon, Republicans are once again asking the question: What kind of candidate can actually win statewide? On the latest episode of Unleashed, Rocky Mountain Voice founder Heidi Ganahl sat down with Mark Mitchell, head pollster for Rasmussen Reports, to dig into exclusive polling data—and the identity crisis facing Colorado’s GOP. [Click here to listen or watch the full episode on YouTube or Rumble.] “This is one of the biggest quandaries,” Mitchell said. “How do you unpack this very particular issue in Colorado?” A Party Divided The polling, commissioned by Ganahl’s Road to Red project, looked at likely Republican primary voters in Colorado. But in a state where unaffiliated voters outnumber both parties, ...

Yadira Caraveo launches bid to reclaim Colorado’s 8th District after razor-thin loss to Gabe Evans

By Rocky Mountain Voice Staff Democrat Yadira Caraveo has officially launched her campaign to reclaim Colorado’s 8th Congressional District—just five months after losing the seat to freshman Republican Gabe Evans by fewer than 2,500 votes. Caraveo’s announcement sets the stage for a rematch in what has quickly become one of the most closely watched and expensive congressional battlegrounds in the country. One of the Most Competitive Districts in the Nation The 8th District, created after the 2020 Census, has emerged as a political bellwether with no clear partisan tilt. It spans Denver’s northern suburbs and rural areas along U.S. 85 into Greeley and has the highest percentage of Latino voters of any district in the state. Caraveo first won the seat in 2022 by just 1,600 vot...

CO Dems’ HB25-1312 gains national spotlight: “The inmates are running the asylum”

By Rocky Mountain Voice Staff A controversial bill pushed by Colorado Democrats—HB25-1312, which redefines gender-related parental disagreements as potential abuse—is quickly gaining national media attention and backlash from lawmakers, parental rights advocates, and constitutional experts across the country. The bill, passed by House Democrats earlier this week, would give Colorado courts broad power to sever custody rights from parents who do not affirm their child’s self-declared gender identity, including pronouns and social transition.  Critics argue that the measure targets conservative families and faith-based parenting, and could ultimately allow ideological disagreements to be framed as abuse. National concern exploded this week after several high-profile figures ...

Rushed or responsive? Home rule proposal catches Douglas County off guard

By Rocky Mountain Voice Staff On March 25, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to initiate a nine-step process to become a home rule county. If approved, Douglas would join Weld and Pitkin as the only counties in Colorado with a home rule charter.  The vote, however, surprised many residents. A source reported to the Rocky Mountain Voice that the discussion of home rule barely met the 24-hour state meeting notice requirement before it was added to a Special Business Meeting agenda.  No town halls were held in advance, and no community survey was conducted.  Instead, residents learned about the plan the day before the vote. Douglas County announced the decision, stating, “Without Home Rule, the Colorado legislature determines both the...
