Caldara: The Colorado GOP’s master plan to keep losing

By Jon Caldara | Complete Colorado Page 2 Politics is the art of addition, not subtraction. The job of electing someone is all about getting people who aren’t all that crazy for you to vote for you. Proving to voters you despise them oddly doesn’t win them over. Just like government cannot tax a people into prosperity, a political party cannot divide and alienate its way to victory. So, it is with great curiosity I watch the communications from the Colorado Republican Party. Instead of highlighting what makes them a better choice than Democrats, they condemn Republicans who don’t pass their purity test. The Colorado Republican Party will be a lost cause for the next six to eight years as it continues to self-deteriorate. We can still move forward with great limited govern...

Denver’s Mayor won’t cut salaries or raises but will cut city services to fund Denver’s migrant response

From thelobby-co.com Denver Mayor Mike Johnston is facing mounting criticism for his request to cut spending in all city agencies in order to fund Denver's 'sanctuary city' policies for migrants. Despite the potential consequences of such cuts, Johnston is determined to prioritize the city's migrant response over taxpayers. According to Mayor Johnston, maintaining the current level of support for migrants without additional federal assistance would require the city to allocate 10% of its annual general fund budget. In an effort to secure the necessary funds, Johnston has asked agencies led by mayoral appointees to reduce their spending. However, scaling back efforts to shelter and house migrants could have severe repercussions. Nearly 5,000 people are currently living in ci...

Pro-Palestinian protesters disrupt Colorado House on first day of session

By Marianne Goodland | Source: Colorado Politics The Colorado General Assembly immediately got off to a troubled start on Wednesday, when multiple groups of pro-Palestinian protesters shouted from the House gallery, bringing the chamber's business to a brief halt. Similar protests took place in state legislatures in California and Arizona on their opening days earlier this week. The disruption prompted Sen. Julie Gonzales, a Denver Democrat who was part of a group of senators participating in a ministerial role in the House, to say lawmakers "don’t have the time to waste." Colorado Legislative Session Begins with a Focus on Housing and New Bipartisan Challenges

Source: thelobby-co.com The Colorado legislative session begins with lawmakers saying that they are prepared to tackle a multitude of pressing issues, ranging from rising property taxes, and improving education to reducing healthcare costs and combating climate change. However, it is anticipated that housing and land use may emerge as the most significant concern for lawmakers during the 120-day session. The Democratic majority at the Capitol is currently experiencing heightened levels of vitriol, evident in the rare censure of a lawmaker and the resignation of two others who cited the prevailing mood within the building. Partisan tensions from the previous year continue to linger, further exacerbating the disunity among Democrats and the delay tactics employed by Republicans,...

Doug Lamborn. "I made the decision today that I’m a candidate for the Republican nomination for the 5th Congressional District," Gardner said in an exclusive interview. "We’re taking the steps to formally file a campaign in the next couple of days." The veteran state lawmaker said his legislative experience gives him an edge in what could be a crowded primary to replace Lamborn in the heavily Republican district, which coincides almost precisely with El Paso County. Gardner, a former El Paso County GOP chairman, served four terms in the state House before his election in 2016 to the sta...
