Teller County to DOJ: Don’t punish rural communities for Denver’s sanctuary policies

By Brett Forrest | KOAA News TELLER COUNTY — In a letter sent to President Trump’s Department of Justice (DOJ), Teller County leaders are simultaneously supporting DOJ lawsuits against Colorado while at the same time asking for leniency if federal funding is cut off from the state. The letter was written and signed by Teller County’s three commissioners and sent last week to the DOJ’s Office of Civil Rights. As a result of Wednesday's meeting, this resolution is now headed to an executive session that will take place before the district's April 10 board meeting. Pueblo police recovered stolen cars, arrested four on Christmas Eve

The department also made four arrests in connection to the stolen cars; two people who were arrested had outstanding warrants, and the others are facing charges related to motor vehicle theft. With this incoming winter storm, flights will likely be impacted. Flights are usually delayed due to snow, strong winds, fog, and thunderstorms. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 26% of delayed flights from September of 2023 to August of 2024 were due to weather. A look at Colorado’s Red Flag law and how often it’s used

It allows family members and household members as well as law enforcement agencies to petition a judge to have someone's guns removed from them if they are deemed a risk to themselves or others. The bill was first introduced in 2018, but it failed in a divided legislature where Democrats controlled the House and Republicans controlled the Senate. In 2019, numerous counties, including El Paso County, declared the counties to be "2nd Amendment Sanctuary Counties" or in El Paso County's case a "2nd Amendment Preservation County" meaning it would not enforce the Red Flag law. Loren Furman, the president and CEO of the Colorado Chamber, said they hired a group of economists from outside the state to examine the data. “The data that they came back with was pretty shocking. What they found is that Colorado is the sixth most regulated state in the nation,” said Furman. “We have over 165,000 regulations implemented through law. It happened during a phone between the Secretary of State's Office and several county clerks. During the call, Beall admits the secretary of state's office did not want to disclose that passwords to Colorado voting systems were mistakenly posted online to avoid a 'media storm.'
