Denver Councilman Darrell Watson opposes Initiative 309 slaughterhouse ban

By Rachel Gabel  | The Fence Post Denver voters will be asked to cast a vote on Initiative 309, which would ban slaughterhouses in the City and County of Denver. A diverse group of stakeholders convened Wednesday on the steps of Denver City and County Building to oppose the ban. The question posed to voters: Shall the voters of the City and County of Denver adopt an ordinance prohibiting slaughterhouses, and, in connection, beginning Jan. 1, 2026, prohibiting the construction, maintenance, or use of slaughterhouses within the city; and requiring the city to prioritize residents whose employment is affected by the ordinance in workforce training or employment assistance programs? Vandalism in rural La Junta floods park, causes damages; Leads needed on suspect

By Norishka Pachot | Fox 21 News La Junta Parks and Recreation is looking for any information after recent instances of vandalism at city parks. Parks and Recreation reported via Facebook there were multiple instances of vandalism, littering, and damage at City Park and the Brick and Tile park. La Junta Fire Department Chief Brad Davidson told FOX21 News the damages were discovered Monday morning, Sept. 16. Davidson said they believe the person responsible started at La Junta City Park, where they broke the valve off a sprinkler valve box, causing extensive flooding of the park. Greeley teacher arrested, accused of assaulting elementary student

By Morgan Whitley | Fox 31 News A Greeley teacher was arrested for allegedly assaulting an elementary-aged student. On Aug. 30, Greeley School Resource Officers were made aware of an alleged assault between an adult teacher and a 6-year-old student at Maplewood Elementary, located at 1201 21st Ave. According to Greeley police, they were notified of the alleged assault by Greeley-Evans School District 6 administrators and security. Denver police investigate shooting on RTD bus; one has non-life threatening injury

By Jennifer McRae | CBS Colorado Police in Denver investigated a shooting on an RTD bus on Tuesday afternoon. Police said the shooting happened on a bus near 15th and Tremont.  One victim was located and self-transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. By Olivia Prentzel | The Colorado Sun Authorities believe a 32-year-old Thornton man saw a Colorado State Patrol trooper parked along a median as a “target of opportunity” before he slowed down and fired multiple rounds from a semi-automatic pistol at the trooper through his window, striking the trooper in his arm. Dashcam footage released Monday showed the rear passenger window of a trooper’s truck shatter as Victor Anthony De Santiago fired shots at Cpl.
