‘Embarrassing to watch’: Rep. Boebert rips ‘infighting,’ calls on Dave Williams to support GOP candidates or be removed

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert on Friday called on Colorado Republican Party Chairman Dave Williams to publicly demonstrate that the state GOP is supporting candidates up and down the ballot or potentially face removal from office. Calling recent infighting within the state GOP "embarrassing to watch," Boebert said in a post on social media that Colorado Republicans risk missing a "golden opportunity" to flip seats in November because rival party factions have been obsessed with duking it out with each other. "The past month of public dissension and infighting in the Colorado Republican Party has been embarrassing to watch as we have a golden opportunity this November to flip seats at every level of government," Boebert said in a post on Facebook. ...

Gone viral: In unique Colorado moment, mountain goats dance on vehicle roof

By Piper Russell | Out There Colorado In a viral video posted to Instagram by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), two mountain goats climb onto a Subaru and start to jump around, showing off a concern that few American drivers outside of Colorado might have to deal with. According to the post, mountain goats' hooves help them to climb up cliffs, steep slopes, and even cars. Their hooves have a hard outer rim and a soft rubbery bottom that acts like a suction cup. Hillman: ‘The Colorado Song’ recalls a better time and place

By Mark Hillman | Commentary, MarkHillman.com             On this Colorado Day, I remember the 1970s when our local radio station would open its morning show by playing The Colorado Song: “If I had a wagon, I would go to Colorado,” praising a state known for “Rocky Mountain peaks, climbing up to the sky” and inhabited by “folks who are rugged and bold!”             One verse describes what was quintessential Colorado: “A uniting spiring they will find at the great Continental Divide.”             It’s a fun song, and I’ve taught it to my kids.  But, I get a little choked up because it describes a Colorado whi...

House GOP campaign arm names Colorado’s Jeff Hurd, Gabe Evans to ‘Young Guns’ program

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics The National Republican Congressional Committee announced Monday that the Republican nominees in Colorado's most competitive congressional races were named to the House GOP campaign arm's Young Guns program for top challengers in targeted seats. First-time candidate Jeff Hurd and state Rep. Gabe Evans, R-Fort Lupton, are among 26 Republican House candidates inducted into the top tier of the campaign support program, which helps candidates who have met fundraising and organizational goals, the NRCC said. Hurd, a Grand Junction attorney, is facing Democrat Adam Frisch in the 3rd Congressional District, which covers most of the Western Slope and Southern Colorado, and Evans is running against first-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo in the N...

‘We must protect our kids’: Lundberg calls for ‘all hands on deck’ to help get initiatives to the ballot

By BRIAN PORTER \ Rocky Mountain Voice The final days are winding down in an effort by Protect Kids Colorado to collect the signatures needed to get two initiatives on the fall ballot, former Sen. Kevin Lundberg wrote Monday in an email newsletter. Protect Kids Colorado, a coalition of grassroots citizens, worked to push Proposition 142 and 160 through the process to reach the ballot, Lundberg said. Each initiative needs 125,000 valid signatures before Wednesday, July 31. Following is the language of each measure: Prop. 142: Any public school representative who obtains information that a child enrolled in their public school is experiencing gender incongruence shall notify the child's parents. Prop. 160: Only female students, based on their biological sex at birth, may part...

House District 22 is now a three-candidate race in El Paso County

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice A third candidate has joined the field in the Colorado House District 22 general election race. The signature petition of Daniel Campaña was certified last week by the secretary of state's office. He submitted 1,253 signatures, of which 1,056 were accepted to clear the minimum requirement of 1,000 valid signatures. Campaña joins the race which already was opposed. Republican Ken DeGraaf, who presently holds the seat, earned 9,538 votes in an unopposed Republican Party primary election. Democrat Michael Pierson collected 4,635 votes in an unopposed Democratic Party primary election. The district lies entirely in El Paso County. "Like 51% of our district, I'm an unaffiliated, which is really cool," Campaña says in a video at his campaign ...

‘We are in crisis mode’: After meeting is blocked, Republicans further discuss removal of chairman

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice BRIGHTON -- A who's who of Colorado Republican Party leadership here Saturday was still unable to answer a pressing question: Are they a minority faction or a unified movement for change? It could not be answered, they say, because a court order prevented their meeting of the party's Central Committee. Those in attendance here at Faith Fellowship Church had planned to discuss the removal of State Chairman Dave Williams, and possibly his vice-chair and secretary in a sweeping change at the state office. The court order preventing it was decided about 24 hours earlier, reportedly without their notice. "We are in crisis mode," Sen. Barb Kirkmeyer said. "We are one vote from a super majority in the [State] Senate and in the [State] House of 65 me...
