Congressional primaries will define Colorado’s GOP | Dick Wadhams

By Dick Wadhams | SOURCE: GAZETTE After three devastating elections that rendered Colorado Republicans irrelevant throughout state government, three congressional primaries can begin to turn that tide — or dig the hole even deeper in 2024. All three congressional seats held by Republicans will have competitive primaries after two longtime incumbents, U.S. Reps. Doug Lamborn of El Paso County and Ken Buck of Weld County, announced they will not seek reelection. U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert will attempt to make an unprecedented switch from the 3rd Congressional District to the 4th Congressional District. The 5th CD and 4th CD are strongly Republican and the eventual nominees are virtually assured to win the general elections. The 3rd CD has a nine-point Republican performance advantage ...

Socialist Democrat goes on multi-cultural misappropriation frenzy in MLK speech

SOURCE: COLORADO PEAK POLITICS State Rep. Tim Hernandez made a damn fool of himself by appropriating an African American cadence while draped in a Palestinian keffiyeh to demand an Israel and Hamas ceasefire during a speech that was supposed to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. Hernandez was obviously suffering from a terrible case of multiple misappropriation of cultures disorder. It was all so bizarre, and cringier than usual for the socialist Democrat who was recently appointed by party bosses to represent Hamas Denver’s 4th District. We haven’t been this embarrassed for Democrats since Hillary Clinton’s accent and inflection flew south telling Selma, Alabama voters she didn’t feel noways tard. A product of the Google generation, Hernandez, and socialists like him tak...

COLUMN: Management of public lands shouldn’t be for sale

By Rachel Gabel | SOURCE: THE GAZETTE The Securities Exchange Commission’s (SEC) proposed rule allowing for Natural Asset Companies to be traded on the NYSE is reckless and politically motivated, exactly the opposite of the purpose of the SEC. The management of public lands ought not be for sale. The SEC was created by Congress to ensure transparency, fair prices for trading, and a high degree of liquidity for traders following the 1929 Stock Market crash. The creation of NACs will harm the economy, especially in rural areas. The SEC has no authority to peddle the management of public lands. According to the proposed rule filing, NACs will be corporations that hold the rights to the ecological performance (i.e., the value of natural assets and production of ecosystem services) pro...

Colo GOP breaks bylaw to sway primary election. Many party members not pleased

SOURCE: COLORADO PEAK POLITICS Nothing triggers a Republican quicker than the suggestion of cheating, an unfair playing field, or being told what to do by The Man. Or at least it used to. Under the new regime of Colorado GOP chairman Dave Williams, party bosses have now decided for us who we must vote for in the Republican presidential primary. The Central Committee on Sunday abandoned the party’s revered history of remaining neutral in primary races and decided for us that Donald Trump should win and we should just do what they say and vote for him. Screw our own free will. It’s not clear how many of the 400 central committee members tuned in to an online Zoom meeting to cast their ballots, but the measure to endorse Trump passed with 65% of the vote, reports Colorado ...

Air Force Academy graduate and Miss Colorado wins Miss America

By Mary Shinn | SOURCE: Denver Gazette Air Force Academy graduate and Miss Colorado Madison Marsh won Miss America Sunday night, making her the first active-duty Air Force officer to hold the title.  Marsh said in a previous interview with The Gazette that while some might see a conflict between military service and pageantry, the values of education, leadership and service are clear in both. "I think for a lot of little young girls, maybe the way that pageantry is portrayed in the media, they wouldn't expect someone also puts on the uniform at the same time," she said. Colorado Celebrating 40 Years Of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

SOURCE: THELOBBY-CO.COM Denver's celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday stands out as a unique and significant event in the country. With approximately 60,000 attendees, it is the largest celebration of King's life outside of his hometown of Atlanta. This annual parade and march, known as the "marade," has become a powerful symbol of unity and remembrance. The term "marade" was coined by former state lawmaker Wilma Webb, who combined the words parade and march to capture the essence of this event. Webb played a crucial role in ensuring that King received recognition in Colorado on his birthday. Initially, her efforts to pass a bill in the state legislature to recognize King's birthday were unsuccessful. It was only after President Ronald Reagan declared it a nati...

Colorado’s Minimum Wage Hike Leads to Massive Layoffs

SOURCE: THELOBBY-CO.COM Colorado’s decision to raise its minimum wage from $12.32 to $14.77 per hour has ignited a fierce debate over the effects on businesses and workers alike. While proponents argue that the increase will stimulate the economy and alleviate poverty, critics contend that it will have detrimental consequences for small businesses, potentially resulting in job losses and operational changes. According to a recent report by the Colorado Restaurant Association, over 40% of the state's restaurants have already reduced staff or hours in response to the wage increase. Major fast-food chains like McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's have also announced plans to automate their operations, replacing human workers with machines. Among the casualties of this wage hike is...

Colorado Republican Party endorses Donald Trump ahead of state’s 2024 presidential primary

By Ernest Luning | SOURCE: Colorado Politics The Colorado Republican Party endorsed former President Donald Trump’s bid for another term late Sunday, nearly two months before state voters are set to cast ballots in Colorado's presidential primary. In an unprecedented decision, the state GOP's central committee voted to endorse Trump over objections from some Republicans that the move abandons the party's policy of staying neutral in primaries. The party approved the endorsement in an online meeting of its roughly 400-member governing committee, held on the eve of the GOP's first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses, where polling shows Trump holds a commanding lead. The endorsement resolution passed with 65% of the committee voting in favor, 34% voting against, and the remainder abstain...
