The big picture: A state law taking effect July 1 will add new requirements for obtaining concealed carry licenses, including mandating eight hours of in-person instruction and passing a live-fire test, where a person must shoot a minimum of 50 rounds. By Sherrie Peif | Complete Colorado DENVER — Data put out by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reporting the number of background checks by the month, shows a trend in Colorado relating to gun rights restrictions being pushed through the legislature every year at this time. For years, Colorado residents appear to race to secure new gun purchases during the latter part of the legislative session when majority Democrats are known to rapidly advance their anti-gun agenda. To date the legislature has introduced 22 bills dealing with gun rights and restrictions in some fashion. 95,000 petitions delivered to the Capitol, urging Polis to veto SB25-003

Between Rocky Mountain Gun Owners (RMGO) and the Colorado State Shooting Association, nearly 95,000 petitions were delivered on Thursday calling on Governor Jared Polis to veto SB25-003, the controversial “safety training” bill that critics say imposes unconstitutional restrictions on the Second Amendment. Major gun-control proposals close in on passage in Colorado

By Lucas Brady Woods | NPR Colorado gun owners and sellers could soon have to contend with sweeping new restrictions as three gun-control proposals approach final passage in the Colorado legislature. The most significant measure, Senate Bill 25-003, would create some of the strictest gun-ownership rules in the country. It would make it illegal to buy, sell and manufacture most guns that use detachable magazines, unless a person has a special permit. A wide range of rifles, shotguns, pistols and some handguns would be affected by the bill. Did Boulder County ban firearms on hiking trails? 

By Por Jaijongkit | The Colorado Sun Firearms and projectile weapons including paintball guns and slingshots are prohibited in all parks and open space in unincorporated Boulder County.  Open and concealed carry of firearms are also prohibited in other “sensitive” public areas including hospitals, county government buildings, child care centers and polling places. The ordinance says the presence of firearms in those locations poses unreasonable risks of gun violence.  A person can generally be charged only if these locations post signs regarding the prohibition. A conviction is punishable by up to 364 days in jail. Boulder County also prohibits the sale of firearms to people younger than 21 and has a 10-day waiting period for gun sales. House Bill 25-1238, titled Gun Show Requirements, includes onerous new barriers that would drastically change the way vendors do business at Colorado gun shows, as well as who can access the events. House Bill 25-1133, titled Requirements for Sales of Firearms Ammunition, mandates retailers lock up all ammunition, meaning customers cannot serve themselves off the shelves, as well as prohibits the retail sale of ammunition to a person who is younger than 21 years of age. Tisha Mauro cast a vote to place an ammunition ban on the Colorado House floor, and then voted against it on the floor in a switcheroo being criticized by Rocky Mountain Gun Owners. House Bill 1133, by Democrat Reps. Monica Duran and Lindsay Gilchrist, prohibits the sale of ammunition to anyone under the age of 21.
