The board of directors of Ascent Colorado Classical Schools, a network of four tuition-free classical public charter schools, has announced an engagement with Hillsdale College as candidate member schools.
A bill from a group of liberal Colorado Democrats aimed at increasing transparency and accountability at charter schools has sparked major opposition, including from Gov. Jared Polis, bipartisan education groups and parents and students.
Public charter schools are an integral part of Colorado’s educational ecosystem. The Centennial State is now home to more than 260 charter schools that serve north of 130,000 students — more than 15 percent of the state’s total public school enrollment.
