Colorado Democrats Push for Controversial $3,000 Cash Payments to Ex-Cons

SOURCE: THELOBBY-CO.COM Progressive Democrats in the Colorado legislature have proposed a concerning new bill that aims to incentivize crime in the Centennial State. Under this bill, criminals would receive a cash payment of $3,000 upon their release from a Colorado prison. This misguided approach is an attempt to prevent recidivism, but it raises serious questions about the priorities and judgment of the progressive Democrats behind it. Colorado currently faces a significant challenge in addressing recidivism, with about half of the individuals released from state prisons ending up back behind bars within three years. This high recidivism rate is largely driven by drug-related offenses, as drugs are easily accessible in the state. (CREDIT: Colorado Department of Corrections) J...

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser and 11 other attorneys general urge federal rescheduling of marijuana

SOURCE: THELOBBY-CO.COM Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser and a group of 11 other state attorneys general have signed a letter urging the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to reclassify cannabis as a Schedule III drug. This move has drawn criticism from conservative voices who believe that Weiser's stance on marijuana is misguided. In a statement released with the letter, Weiser emphasized Colorado's commitment to protecting its regulated cannabis market. Weiser acknowledged the health and safety risks associated with cannabis use and expressed confidence that a well-regulated market would best protect consumers. By advocating for the rescheduling of marijuana, Weiser believes that it will enable the market to function more effectively. Currently, cannabis is legal ...

Suspect in DUI death of Colo mother and son was deported four times

SOURCE: Colorado Peak Politics As sanctuary cities plot to get billions more in taxpayer dollars to support illegal immigrants and expand services to migrants with questionable asylum claims, we are tragically reminded of the consequences of embracing lawless borders. Jose Guadalupe Menjivar-Alas of El Salvador was deported four times before he got drunk and crashed into a vehicle killing a Broomfield mother and her 16-year-old son just before Christmas, The Daily Caller reported this week. PeakNation™ will recall that Menjivar-Alas was arrested and chargedwith homicide, DUI, and being a habitual traffic offender in the deaths of 47-year-old Melissa Powell and son Riordan. Now we learn he was last deported in 2015. His most recent alcohol-related incident in Boulder County ...

State Rep. Lynch steps up fight on fentanyl

State Rep. Mike Lynch, R-Wellington, the Minority Leader in the Colorado House, is hoping to expand his influence on fentanyl policy beyond the State of Colorado. Last weekend, he attended the National Conference of State Legislators, calling for an attention to border security as a first and crucial step in combating further spread of the fentanyl epidemic. The NCSL is a competitive selection process with Lynch being chosen among 25 legislators nationally. "I am deeply concerned about Colorado's growing deadly fentanyl crisis, and it is imperative that we address this issue head-on,” Lynch said. “The reasons behind the rapid rise of fentanyl in Colorado are clear: America's weak borders, Mexican drug trafficking, cheap drugs used in making fentanyl shipped from China, and Colorad...

Denver’s Mayor won’t cut salaries or raises but will cut city services to fund Denver’s migrant response

From thelobby-co.com Denver Mayor Mike Johnston is facing mounting criticism for his request to cut spending in all city agencies in order to fund Denver's 'sanctuary city' policies for migrants. Despite the potential consequences of such cuts, Johnston is determined to prioritize the city's migrant response over taxpayers. According to Mayor Johnston, maintaining the current level of support for migrants without additional federal assistance would require the city to allocate 10% of its annual general fund budget. In an effort to secure the necessary funds, Johnston has asked agencies led by mayoral appointees to reduce their spending. However, scaling back efforts to shelter and house migrants could have severe repercussions. Nearly 5,000 people are currently living in ci...
