Colorado Faces Elevated Wildfire Risk As Conditions Outpace Historic Fire Seasons

By Nick Smith | The Gazette Colorado’s blistering, dry and breezy conditions have fire officials on edge as the state braces for a wildfire season forecast to be worse than during the Waldo Canyon fire in 2012. Fire Departments Across State Face Major Staffing And Equipment Shortfall

(KDVR) — A new report from the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control shows that fire departments across the state are facing significant staffing and equipment shortages. While every call for help begins the same with a 911 dispatcher, a fire crew and a quick response, behind the scenes, Colorado’s fire service says keeping up with the demand is getting more difficult. The new state report shows fire departments across Colorado say they need more than 1,100 career firefighters and just as many volunteers in the next two years. By Michael Abeyta | CBS Colorado The brush crew from Aurora Fire Rescue that went and helped in the Los Angeles firefighting efforts said Coloradans need to be prepared for a wildland fire at any time of year. The last time we saw Captain Jeremy Sones and the Aurora Fire Rescue Brush 13 crew they were on their way to fight the massive wildfires that were burning in LA. "We got back last Monday evening.
