$640M Xcel settlement brings closure—and uncertainty for Marshall Fire survivors

By Sarah Horbacewicz | CBS Colorado Survivors of the Marshall Fire are waiting to see their offer of the $640 million settlement from Xcel Energy announced on Wednesday. Jenn Hart in Louisville is one of the more than 4,000 plaintiffs in the suit. She says her home was torn down to the studs after smoke damaged her home. Now, family photos are some of the few remaining pieces of Hart's former home. Reflecting on those that were saved when they evacuated, and those that were left behind, she described an engagement photo, "It was sitting in this corner on a cabinet, and it wasn't blue before the fire," she said. FAA cites Rocky Mountain Metro as most incident-prone airport in U.S.

By Ryan Fish | Denver7 An aviation expert told Denver7 that most of the incidents are not life-threatening. Superior's mayor, however, is sounding the alarm. BROOMFIELD, Colo. — Below the flight path of Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (RMMA) is the town of Superior. “We're hearing the noise,” Mayor Mark Lacis told Denver7 Wednesday. “Our residents have been complaining for years.” In 2024, the Town of Superior and Boulder County filed a lawsuit against Jefferson County, which owns and operates the airport, over the noise issue. A Boulder County court dismissed that lawsuit earlier this year, though the town said it is considering options, including an appeal. Colorado town of Superior under home rule after special election

By Sarah Horbacewicz | CBS Colorado In a special election Tuesday, the Colorado town of Superior voted to adopt a charter and move the town under home rule.  There was a low turnout for the town of more than 13,000 people. The votes came in at 1,670 for the charter and 721 against. The measure was originally planned to be on the November ballot, but a clerical error pushed it to a special election in December. Superior passes first-of-it-kind resolution condemning anti-Israeli protesters

By Shaun Boyd | CBS Colorado An anti-Israeli protest outside a private residence has prompted the town of Superior to take unprecedented action. Town trustees -- including one who is married to a Palestinian -- unanimously passed a resolution condemning protesters for "hate speech, antisemitism, and racism" against Jewish people. While other places have seen far bigger protests, Superior is the first municipality in the state -- and possibly the nation -- to take a stand. Trustees say protesters have the right to hateful, even racist speech, but they -- as town leaders -- have the right and responsibility to condemn it.
