Garbo | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice On July 28, Colorado election officials confirmed that Greg Lopez and Taralyn Romero had qualified for the November general election ballot as unaffiliated candidates for governor and lieutenant governor. Their campaign submitted 11,948 valid signatures, exceeding the requirement in every congressional district. That accomplishment alone deserves serious coverage. Petitioning onto a statewide ballot requires money, organization, geographic reach, and thousands of individual acts of voter participation. He’ll face Democratic nominee Phil Weiser, the state’s two-term attorney general, and Republican Victor Marx, a first-time candidate who runs a Christian ministry in Colorado Springs, as well as several candidates who belong to minor political parties.
