A town hall meeting to discuss Weld County’s sanctuary status and fiscal responsibility has been called for Wednesday, March 13, a press release from “We, the concerned citizens of Weld County” reads.

The email with the press release received by The Rocky Mountain Voice indicates all Weld County commissioners have been invited, along with House District 48 Rep. Gabe Evans.

“This gathering aims to discuss and reinforce our collective commitment to ensuring Weld County remains a non-sanctuary county and that taxpayer funds are not used in any capacity related to this matter,” the release reads.

The town hall will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Weld County administrative offices located at 1150 O ST. Greeley, CO 80631. The town hall is aimed at an open dialogue between elected officials and residents to contribute in the decision-making process, the release reads.

The town hall has two primary objectives, as described in the release:

“1. Reinforce Weld County’s non-sanctuary status: We believe it is crucial to have an open discussion about the importance of upholding Weld County’s non-sanctuary status. Together, we will address any apprehensions, seek accurate information and foster a constructive dialogue about the impact and benefits of this policy on our community.”

“2. Ensuring transparent use of taxpayer funds: As taxpayers, we value financial transparency and accountability. It is imperative that we have a comprehensive understanding of how taxpayer funds are utilized. The town hall meeting will focus on assuring us, the residents, that no taxpayer monies will be used in any capacity related to the sanctuary policy. We expect to receive detailed information on how taxpayer funds are allocated, ensuring our trust and confidence in the governance of our county.”

Those attending the meeting should expect presentations from community members, legal experts and other stakeholders sharing the concerns of “We, the concerned citizens of Weld County”.

“We invite the members of the board of commissioners to actively listen to our questions, engage with us and demonstrate their commitment to representing the interests of the people they serve,” the release reads. “We, the people of Weld County, strongly urge all residents, business owners, and community organizations to attend this town hall meeting. Your presence and active participation will contribute significantly to an inclusive and informed discussion that will shape the policies and direction of our beloved county.”
