Moments into former President Donald J. Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Penn., Saturday, Mr. Trump was apparently struck by gunfire.
He went to the ground behind the podium from where he was speaking, and when he rose Mr. Trump had blood on his face and seeming to come from the top of his ear.
U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, one of his strongest allies and who holds Mr. Trump’s endorsement for re-election, called it evil on Twitter moments later.
“We are praying for President Trump and the nation tonight,” Boebert said.
In a series of posts on Twitter, she evoked Isaiah 54:17: “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.”
She called to pray for Mr. Trump and the people of Butler, Penn.
“Throughout history, those who hate God and embrace evil have joined forces with one another to oppose God, His Son, His Holy Spirit, and His people,” Boebert said. “We are one nation under God and we will overcome evil.”
