Garbo: The Party of spite (Democrats) betrayed their own promise on ‘No Tax on Tips’

By C. J. Garbo | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice

In a stunning display of hypocrisy, the Democratic Party once again proved that their loyalty lies not with the American people but with their own desperate grip on power.

Kamala Harris campaigned on the promise of “No Tax on Tips,” a policy first proposed by President Donald Trump, yet when given the opportunity to support it, nearly every Democrat in Congress voted against it.

Why?

Because Republicans brought it forward. That’s it. No rational argument, no policy dispute — just petty, reflexive opposition rooted in pure political spite.

This is not an isolated incident; it is a defining characteristic of today’s Democratic Party. They do not govern; they obstruct, steal, and lie. They will champion a cause when they believe it benefits their power but vote against the same cause when it might give their political opponents a win.

Their decision to oppose the “No Tax on Tips” measure wasn’t based on principle, it was based on hatred.

It is a stark reminder that Democrats don’t care about working-class Americans — the very people who would benefit most from eliminating taxes on tips. The servers, bartenders, hairdressers and countless others — who rely on tips to make ends meet — were just thrown under the bus because their financial relief happened to be attached to a Republican-led bill. It was never about helping them; it was always about control.

The Democratic Party has become an organization of temperamental, spoiled, dishonest, tyrannical, temper-tantrum-throwing children who vote not based on what is best for the country, but on what will preserve their stranglehold.

They scream about “equity” and “fairness” while actively blocking policies that would put more money in Americans’ pockets — all because they despise the people proposing them.

There is no clearer proof that Democrats prioritize their power over the well-being of Americans — Republicans, Democrats and Independents alike. Their actions demonstrate that they would rather see Americans suffer than allow their political opponents to succeed in enacting common-sense policies.

This is why they shut down school choice, block tax cuts and protect corrupt institutions that serve them, instead of We the People. They don’t care about governing. They care about ruling.

Americans of all political stripes should be outraged. This is not how a functional democratic republic works. Our government should be driven by ideas, not petty tribalism.

Policies should be judged on their merit, not on who proposed them. Yet, Democrats have made it clear: they will oppose anything and everything that threatens their monopoly on power, even if it means betraying their own promises and punishing the very voters they claim to represent.

Kamala Harris may have stolen the “No Tax on Tips” policy from Trump, but the real theft happened when her party robbed hardworking Americans of the relief they deserved — all in the name of keeping Republicans from a legislative victory.

This isn’t leadership. This is sabotage.
