DENVER (KDVR) — The Student Bar Association at the University of Denver is addressing the institution’s administrators following an announcement that the university will cease some diversity, equity and inclusion practices.
In a press release on Wednesday, the Student Bar Association at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law stated that the student Senate voted to approve a resolution of no confidence in some of the institution’s administrators, including its chancellor and the vice chancellor of DEI.
On Aug. 19, in a joint announcement by the chancellor, provost, general counsel, and vice president. The chancellor of DEI to staff and faculty members, which was provided to FOX31 from the university, stated that they will be “ceasing” several practices, such as its “race-conscious scholarships and programs” and “DEI training.”
In the announcement, the university’s administrators said the decision was a result of the U.S. Department of Justice’s clarifying its stance in a memo on July 29 that educational institutions receiving federal funding are subject to federal anti-discrimination laws.
In the statement from the Student Bar Association, which was sent to students in the Sturm College of Law regarding the rollbacks, it said that DU’s faculty held a vote of no confidence in Chancellor Haefner, which allegedly passed with 56% of voting faculty.
The statement also notes that after the vote, the DU Board of Trustees allegedly “reaffirmed its support of Chancellor Haefner and refused to take any action to change institutional leadership or vision.”
