Public safety crisis? Colorado ranks 7th worst for violent crime per capita

By Brooke Williams | FOX31 DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado has once again been ranked as one of the least safe states in the nation, according to a recent WalletHub data report. The personal finance website conducted the study using data for each state, focusing on data points that indicate how safe an area is, such as the frequency of violent events like shootings, how many drivers are insured, hate crime incidents and bullying, unemployment rates, how many first responders and law enforcement are available and others data points. The Safest States in America in 2025, according to the study, are Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine and Utah. (KDVR) — A pedestrian tunnel along Wadsworth Boulevard that neighbors recently called unsafe looks markedly different less than 24 hours after FOX31’s initial report aired Monday night. By Tuesday afternoon, construction crews had painted over graffiti, cleared trash and moved along people who had been loitering, and Lakewood police officers were on site patrolling and confiscating contraband, according to observations by FOX31 at the scene. And I know everybody’s anxious about it, but we really do need other sources of revenue in order for us to kind of be able to complete it in a reasonable amount of time,” senior manager for transit-oriented communities for RTD Bill Sirois said. AGC Biologics filed a WARN Notice with the state of Colorado on Sept. 16 about the closure of its Boulder and Longmont facilities, as well as the impact on employees who support those facilities from afar. After the shooting on Wednesday, Sept. 10, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said during a press conference that the officer assigned to the school had left about two hours before shots were fired. Evergreen High School previously had a full-time School Resource Officer; however, that officer has been on medical leave, and the responsibility was being shared between other deputies. Lakewood police seeking tips from public to catch burglar targeting churches

The Lakewood Police Department has not identified all the churches hit, but has confirmed that the Mountair Christian Church on Benton Street was among them. In fact, police say that the church was hit not once,  but twice, in June. In both cases, the suspect got away with musical instruments and electronics. Police released a photo of the suspect taken from security cameras. In the photo, he appears to be white with dark hair. He’s sporting a beard and tattoos on his biceps on both arms, as well as his back.
