A mob of Antifa militants was captured on video setting off flares and smoke bombs, assaulting attendees, hurling objects at police, and issuing death threats.
What CBS News Bay Area described as a “mostly peaceful” protest outside a Turning Point USA (TPUSA) event at UC Berkeley on Monday night was anything but, according to ample video footage and reporters on the ground.
A mob of Antifa militants and far-left agitators mobilized to disrupt the final stop of TPUSA’s “American Comeback Tour,” setting off flares and smoke bombs, assaulting attendees, hurling objects at police, and issuing death threats. The violence forced riot police to intervene, and multiple arrests were made.
Standing directly across from the chaos, CBS News reporter Amanda Hari described the situation as “lively” and “mostly peaceful,” while at the same time detailing the chaotic scene. Her reporting drew immense pushback on social media from conservative pundits and independent reporters who witnessed the violence unfold.
“The news is already calling what happened last night at UC Berkeley “mostly peaceful.” Why do they always do this?” wrote Andrew Kolvet on X, a TPUSA spokesperson and producer/host of The Charlie Kirk Show.
Video footage captured by TPUSA “Frontlines” reporter Savanah Hernandez showed Antifa militants lighting flares and igniting smoke bombs, creating a tense atmosphere that panicked attendees. Agitators hurled heavy projectiles at police barricades, attempted to “de-arrest” detained comrades, and blocked all four exits while chanting slurs like “F*ck your dead homie” in reference to Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who was cold-bloodedly assassinated in September.
Other protesters issued verbal harassment to attendees, such as “Do the world a favor and kill yourself” and “Your lives mean nothing,” according to video footage.
