President Trump posted on Wednesday that he is granting a full pardon to former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters, who has served 14 months of a nine year prison sentence.
He announced it in a Truth Social post late in the afternoon.
Trump criticized Democrats in the post, saying violent crime has gone unaddressed while election-related cases moved forward after 2020.
“For years, Democrats ignored violent and vicious crime of all shapes, sizes, colors, and types,” Trump wrote. He added that violent criminals “who should have been locked up were allowed to attack again.”
Trump said Democrats instead chose to go after people who pushed for election security, writing that they “chose instead to prosecute anyone they can find that wanted safe and secure elections.”
He called her “a Patriot who simply wanted to make sure that our elections were fair and honest.”
“Tina is sitting in a Colorado prison for the ‘crime’ of demanding honest elections,” Trump wrote.
Trump also criticized Democratic immigration policies, accusing them of allowing people into the country “so they could rip off American taxpayers.” He added that Democrats “only think there is one crime — not voting for them.”
“Democrats have been relentless in their targeting of Tina Peters,” Trump wrote.
Trump ended the post by announcing the pardon outright, writing, “Today I am granting Tina a full pardon for her attempts to expose voter fraud in the rigged 2020 Presidential Election!”
Earlier today, Peter Ticktin, an attorney for Peters, posted on Twitter/X “Tina Peters deserves justice” and that he had “formally notified President Trump urging a presidential pardon outlining why Tina is a necessary witness in exposing election misconduct.”
At 5:22 pm, the Twitter/X account for Tina Peters acknowledged awareness of President Trump’s announcement of a presidential pardon, expressing gratitude.
