Trump on the $100 bill? A measure by a Texas congressman proposes it, in a removal of a Founding Father

U.S. Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Flower Mound, Texas, the son-in-law to conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza, has authored a measure which would place President Donald J. Trump on the $100 bill, removing a Founding Father of America.

The Golden Age Act of 2025 was introduced Monday, proposing to remove Benjamin Franklin from any $100 currency note printed after Dec. 31, 2028.

“President Trump could be enjoying his golden years golfing and spending time with his family. Instead, he took a bullet for this country and is now working overtime to secure our border, fix our uneven trade relationship with the rest of the world, make America energy independent again, and put America first by ending useless foreign aid,” Gill writes in a press release supporting the measure. “There has been no one who has done more to bring America into the golden age than President Trump. Featuring him on the $100 bill is a small way to honor all he will accomplish these next four years.”

Benjamin Franklin was considered only second to George Washington in his influence during the American Revolutionary period. He worked in the trades of printing, publishing and writing, was a scientist and inventor, and was a stateman and diplomat. He served as both the U.S. Minister to France and Sweden, as the sixth president of Pennsylvania, the first U.S. postmaster, a delegate to the Second Continental Congress and as the first president of the University of Pennsylvania. He also earned acclaim for Poor Richard’s Almanac, which he published under a pseudonym, and he’s likely the reason America implemented paper currency. His likeness still appears on the cover of the Old Farmer’s Almanac. Franklin was among the five drafters of the Declaration of Independence, although his role was diminished in comparison to others. Among his greatest societal contributions is the discovery of electricity, a tale which every child has heard through the generations.

The measure requires the Secretary of the Treasury to produce a preliminary design of a $100 note with the removal of Franklin and the addition of Trump by Dec. 31, 2026.

U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls, also of Texas, is the co-sponsor to the legislation.
