Hunter: Will you be the miracle Pastor John Waters needs?

By Drake Hunter | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice

Across Colorado, churches gather each week to worship, pray, and walk in faith. From the Western Slope to the Eastern Plains, these communities share a simple but powerful calling—to love one another well. Today, that love has a chance to meet a real and urgent need.

And today, that love has an urgent opportunity to shine.

One of our own—John Waters, Worship Pastor at Elevating Life Church in Fort Morgan and a cherished beloved DJ on KFTM/Bob FM—is in critical need of a living liver transplant. John isn’t just a leader—he’s been a steady voice of hope. Whether preaching on Sundays or spinning tracks on the radio, he’s lifted hearts across Colorado and Nebraska.

After a long and silent battle with liver disease, John’s health has reached a critical point where only a transplant can restore what time has taken. An initial donor stepped forward, but unexpected complications brought things to a halt. Now, time is running out—and we need to find someone who can help save John’s life.

A Chance to Be the Miracle

A healthy person can donate part of their liver—it grows back over time, and it can save someone’s life. If you’re 18 to 60 and in good health, you might be a match. It all starts with a simple, private screening and a chance to learn more.

This evaluation includes a series of tests to ensure your health and compatibility. Even if you’re not a match, your willingness to learn and share can change everything.

Why It Matters

John has spent his life pouring into others. He’s helped build churches, community programs, and friendships that reflect the very best of what it means to be human. Now, the broader church family, across denominations, cities, and even state lines, has the opportunity to pour back into him.

This is more than a medical need. It’s a spiritual calling, a living parable of what it means to lay down our lives, not in death but in life-giving love.

How You Can Help

  • Step up to be screened as a potential living donor.
  • Share this message with your church, small group, or on social media.
  • Pray—and invite others to join you.

Whether you get screened, spread the word, or lift John up in prayer, every step matters more than you know.

Let’s stand together for John. Let’s demonstrate that the body of Christ is still active in times of crisis. Let’s show that the body of Christ still moves in times of need. We can help write the next chapter of John’s story—one marked by hope, courage, and a community that cares.
