Colorado Secretary of State Candidates Offer Competing Visions for Elections

The Colorado Sun interviewed the two candidates to get their views of mail ballots, election security and the 2020 presidential election

Amanda Gonzalez, a Democrat, and James Wiley, a Republican, are competing to be Colorado’s next secretary of state.

The current secretary of state, Democrat Jena Griswold, is term-limited in her current office and running for attorney general.

Gonzalez, 42, lives in Arvada. She has been the Jefferson County clerk and recorder since 2023. From 2018 to 2021, she led Common Cause, a left-leaning nonprofit that advocates for government transparency. She is an attorney.

Wiley, 33, lives in Holyoke. He is a small business owner and legal assistant. He was a Libertarian until last year.
