The tiny town of Bow Mar is gaining national attention for its plan to place gates on public roads — and it’s not backing down.

On Monday night, the town’s Board of Trustees voted to approve hundreds of thousands of dollars for access-control gates at its entrances, starting with Sheridan Boulevard at the town’s northern border.

That first gate could be activated early next year, opening only for Bow Mar residents, guests and emergency vehicles. The town also approved funding for another gate on Prospect Street, but officials said they’ll wait to see how the first one goes.

The town says it’s a move to improve safety, while its neighbors say the change will unfairly block other drivers from using public roads. Meanwhile, The New York Times featured the controversy in a feature article on Tuesday — one of the first times Bow Mar has ever been mentioned in the Old Gray Lady.

So, what’s happening, and what’s next?
