Sloan: What are the next steps for Iran?

By Kelly Sloan | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice The headline in last Friday’s Wall Street Journal was more poignant than probably the editors realized at deadline: “U.S. Sway Slips As Israel Looks To Strike Iran.” That rather understated assessment serves as a metaphor, not only for the Biden administration’s policy in the region, but it’s foreign policy in general.  The hulking monster in the background of all the strife in the Middle East is Iran, upon which any discussions of pressing strategic concern land. They land most squarely on the topic of Iran having nuclear weapons. Were Iran to get the bomb, the whole landscape of strategic relationships changes, and not only in the Middle East. Obviously, a nuclear-armed Iran is an existential threat to Israel, and it would also...

If you don’t know Danielle Jurinsky, you might after Donald Trump’s MAGA rally in Aurora

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice When Danielle Jurinsky returned to civilian life after nine years serving in the Air Force, most of it at Buckley Air Base, and after building multiple businesses employing more than 50 residents, adding to her responsibility may not have been a consideration. But, that's just what she did, running for and being elected as a member of City Council in the town where she was raised. It would almost be unfathomable to consider anyone in Colorado hasn't heard of the Aurora city councilwoman in the past few months. She's been at the forefront of discoveries the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Araqua was active in some areas of the town, and leading in the assistance for some of the most affected residents. In a few days, the nation might also kn...

Rep. Armagost stresses voting in November: ‘There’s too much at stake and too much to lose’

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Registration, education and turnout are all of equal importance for down-ballot candidates in the Nov. 5 general election, state Rep. Ryan Armagost told grassroots supporters Monday in a call led by former state Sen. Kevin Lundberg. He's among many Republicans who are encouraging efforts to continue to register new voters and educate them on the ballot. "We need to at least triple our voter turnout," Armagost said. "There's too much at stake and too much to lose." Armagost is completing his first term in Colorado House District 64, representing portions of Larimer and Weld counties. He was preceded in the office by Richard Holtorf of Akron, who was redistricted into House District 63. Previously a volunteer firefighter in Evans and a 10...

In run for state board of education, Yazmin Navarro calls for more voter interaction, education and assistance

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice As the wife of a U.S. Marine and a mother, Yazmin Navarro experienced education models in America and abroad. Those varied experiences as a student and parent, working with at-risk youth and an upbringing with "education at forefront for success" are among the reasons Navarro chose to seek election in Colorado's 8th District to the state board of education. Navarro, the Republican nominee, is being opposed on the general election ballot by Democrat Rhonda Solis. The campaign trail has led Navarro to draw some conclusions which she shared Monday, Sept. 23, on a grassroots call headed by former Sen. Kevin Lundberg. "I'm seeing [Democrats] out there registering voters," Navarro said. "Why can't Republicans do more of that? I want to see us ou...
