Sold out: Trump will visit Aspen for fundraiser and you most likely can’t get a ticket

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Editor's note: This story was edited at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024, to reflect new information correcting prior erroneous information concerning the Colorado GOP's relation to the Trump 47 Committee. The hardest ticket to get in Colorado this week -- and the most expensive -- will be a seat to be in attendance when former President Donald Trump returns to Colorado. He will address a crowd Saturday in Aspen, making his first campaign appearance since 2020, when he stumped for former U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner. A seat at the dinner for a couple will cost $25,000, while host levels for a couple cost $100,000 and $500,000. But, the invite on the Trump 47 Committee page indicates the event is sold out. The invite did not list a time or location f...

‘The Kamala Crash’: Trump terms market selloff as ‘preview’ of world without him in the White House

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain voice As Americans awoke Monday to the start of a work week on Main Street, there was a crash on Wall Street. Investments in Big Tech and other companies with household names plummeted, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 1,000 points at the opening of markets. By mid-afternoon it had not changed. Alphabet, Apple, Amazon, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, Nvidia and Tesla -- known as the Magnificent Seven -- were all down, leaving some to project those companies alone could have up to $1 trillion in losses on the day. Other overseas markets experienced the same selloff. “Japan down 12%, India down 6%. Germany way down also. U.S. really bad. This is a preview of the world markets without Donald J. Trump in the White House," the former President p...

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and his running mate Nicole Shanahan have qualified for a place on the general election ballot in Colorado, a statement from the Colorado secretary of state's office reads. They will appear as an independent on the ballot. RFK, Jr., is the son of 1968 Presidential contender Bobby Kennedy and the nephew of President John F. Kennedy. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5. Candidates for President and Vice President are required to collect at least 1,500 valid signatures in each of the state's eight congressional districts. The campaign collected 21,702 valid signatures, and met the qualifying total in each district. The campaign collected the most signatures in the wide-ranging, 21-county 4th District, which is largely r...

‘We must protect our kids’: Lundberg calls for ‘all hands on deck’ to help get initiatives to the ballot

By BRIAN PORTER \ Rocky Mountain Voice The final days are winding down in an effort by Protect Kids Colorado to collect the signatures needed to get two initiatives on the fall ballot, former Sen. Kevin Lundberg wrote Monday in an email newsletter. Protect Kids Colorado, a coalition of grassroots citizens, worked to push Proposition 142 and 160 through the process to reach the ballot, Lundberg said. Each initiative needs 125,000 valid signatures before Wednesday, July 31. Following is the language of each measure: Prop. 142: Any public school representative who obtains information that a child enrolled in their public school is experiencing gender incongruence shall notify the child's parents. Prop. 160: Only female students, based on their biological sex at birth, may part...

‘We are in crisis mode’: After meeting is blocked, Republicans further discuss removal of chairman

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice BRIGHTON -- A who's who of Colorado Republican Party leadership here Saturday was still unable to answer a pressing question: Are they a minority faction or a unified movement for change? It could not be answered, they say, because a court order prevented their meeting of the party's Central Committee. Those in attendance here at Faith Fellowship Church had planned to discuss the removal of State Chairman Dave Williams, and possibly his vice-chair and secretary in a sweeping change at the state office. The court order preventing it was decided about 24 hours earlier, reportedly without their notice. "We are in crisis mode," Sen. Barb Kirkmeyer said. "We are one vote from a super majority in the [State] Senate and in the [State] House of 65 me...

If the chairman were to be removed, who leads the Colorado GOP? These three say they can

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice BRIGHTON -- If the Central Committee were to clean house at Colorado Republican Party headquarters and remove all state officers, as has been proposed by a faction of the committee, who might assume leadership? A non-meeting "rally" at Faith Fellowship Church here on Saturday, July 27, may have begun to answer that question. In fact, a couple committee members in attendance proposed they had found all three officers -- those candidates to become chairman who stayed to participate in an impromptu question-and-answer session. Those candidates were Eli Bremer, Richard Holtorf and Brita Horn. Also seeking the chairmanship is Steven Peck. "I would argue I might not make a very good secretary, if you look at my notes today," Holtorf joked with the ...

Alert: Meeting converted to rally in Brighton at 9 a.m.

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice A meeting which could have led to the removal of the Colorado Republican Party's chairman and possibly other leadership, and the election of a new chairman, was cancelled late Friday night. It has been converted into a rally for conservative causes. The rally is at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at Brighton's Harvest Fellowship Church, 11401 E. 160th Ave. The notice of the rally appears as if no discussion of the prior meeting's purpose will take place. It indicates those who had expressed interest in running for chairman in March's re-organizational meeting will speak. Those persons could be Eli Bremer, Richard Holtorf, Brita Horn, Jay Misary and Steve Peck. The rally will also include presentations from Protect Kids Colorado, Colorado Life In...

Larry Don Suckla wins recount in Colorado House District 58 race

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Larry Don Suckla has been declared the winner of the Colorado House District 58 Republican Party primary election, following a mandatory recount of votes in the race. The three-vote margin in the race did not change following the recount. “The mandatory recount for House District 58 is complete and has confirmed the results of the race with just a three-vote margin,” Secretary of State Jena Griswold said in a statement. “I commend the election workers in the eight counties in House District 58 for conducting this recount.” The recount awarded Suckla with 6,489 votes, a 50.01% margin, three votes ahead of J. Mark Roeber. Kathleen Curry had 6,550 votes in the Democratic Party's primary election. She will oppose Suckla in the general election...

Jeff Crank: Biden should ‘resign immediately’ or the cabinet should ‘invoke the 25th Amendment’

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Jeff Crank, the Republican nominee for Colorado's 5th District seat in Congress, has called for President Joe Biden to resign or be removed from office. "Despite an all-out effort to hide Joe Biden's failing health, Democrats turned on him when they saw they could lose power," Crank wrote Sunday on Twitter/X following Biden's announcement he would suspend his campaign for re-election, but finish out his first term in office. Mr. Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris for the Democratic Party's nomination, although some key and powerful players in the party have not. "The President admits he can't run for re-election, but somehow thinks he can run the government," Crank wrote on Twitter/X. "The President must resign immediately, or the cabinet mu...

Polis: Biden’s decision to withdraw not easy ‘but it is the right one’

Colorado's Reps. Boebert, Lamborn respond vis Twitter posts By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice In the moments following President Joe Biden's announcement he would suspend his campaign for re-election, Gov. Jared Polis responded in a manner similar to President John F. Kennedy's moon challenge speech. "This could not have been an easy decision but it is the right one, and Joe Biden promised Americans he would always do what’s right for our country and once again he has delivered," Polis said. "I know President Biden and Jill are making this choice with the future of Americans in their hearts." There's some theory Polis, who will has 2-1/2 years left on his term as governor, wants to take a bid at the office or seek a place on the ticket as vice-president. He called Mr. Bide...
