Rep. Brooks makes case for Douglas County Home Rule as ‘the path forward for liberty’

By Brandon Wark | Free State Colorado Voters in Douglas County will decide on June 24th, 2025 whether to create a Home Rule Charter Commission, and who to place on the Commission. If approved, this Commission will craft a new Home Rule Charter that voters will decide on during this November’s Election. If approved, this Home Rule Charter will make Douglas County the third Colorado County to become Home Rule. The Colorado Constitution allows Counties and Municipalities to adopt Home Rule status, which allows for more local control and greater flexibility to solve local issues. As you most likely know, the Colorado State Legislature has gone off the rails these past few years, passing legislation to restrict our rights, including our gun rights and parental rights. The Stat...

Faith meets baseball: Pope Leo XIV’s Chicago stadium blessing reaches thousands

By AP via Scripps News Group In his first words directed specifically to Americans, Pope Leo XIV told young people on Saturday how to find hope and meaning in their lives through God and in service to others. “So many people who suffer from different experiences of depression or sadness — they can discover that the love of God is truly healing, that it brings hope,” the first American pope said in a video broadcast on the jumbotron at the White Sox baseball stadium in Chicago. The event — set in Leo's hometown and at the home stadium of his favorite major league team — was organized by the Archdiocese of Chicago in honor of his recent election as pope. Leo seized the opportunity to speak directly to young people, tying his message to the Catholic Church's ongoing Jubilee year of h...

Wolf pups den near Colorado cattle—rancher calls policy ‘the dumbest thing in the world’

By Natalie Krebs | Outdoor Life One rancher says the Copper Creek Pack, which has a history of hunting and killing livestock, is raising pups just a quarter mile from his cattle Wolf pups have been spotted in Pitkin County, Colorado, according to several sources, including a rancher whose calf was attacked by wolves this spring. Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirmed that it has seen pups in an emailed statement to Outdoor Life, and that their employees are continuing to monitor four den sites.  “CPW staff have begun to get minimum counts of pups by both direct observations and indirect methods,” the spokesperson wrote. “It is important to note that sighting numbers (especially from early season sightings) are not a guaranteed number of animals since certainty in det...

‘We followed the rules’—Why Trump’s immigration message is winning over immigrant voters

By Martha McHardy | Newsweek New data shows a growing number of immigrant voters are backing Donald Trump and his hardline immigration agenda—marking a dramatic reversal from past elections. Why It Matters The Trump administration has pledged to carry out the largest mass deportation in U.S. history and has conducted numerous ICE raids, some of which have swept up people with proper documentation. Trump's aggressive stance on immigration has resulted in widespread protests, especially in Los Angeles, where Trump authorized the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles after reported violence against law enforcement, specifically ICE agents carrying out deportation raids in the city. But despite the unrest, data suggests that Trump's messagi...

Anderson: On Flag Day, let’s remember what still holds us together

By Nina Anderson | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice With Flag Day approaching, I took a moment to swap out the American flags at our home—a tradition we've kept ever since our son joined the Navy nearly three years ago. That decision changed how we saw everyday things. Since then, that flag hasn’t come down once. It stays up through wind, rain, and snow. We fly it for him, and for what he represents. We were raised to treat that flag with respect, because it stood for something bigger than ourselves. So no, changing it out isn’t just a chore. It’s a way of showing we still care. It's an act of gratitude and principle. Such dignity is shown by never allowing it to touch the ground, ensuring it is properly illuminated if flown at night, and when it becomes too worn, it should ...

Florida Sheriff Ivey to protesters: “Brick, firebomb or gun—we’ll kill you, graveyard dead”

By Gray News staff | KKTV BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (Gray News) – A sheriff in Florida delivered a stern warning to potentially destructive protesters demonstrating against the ongoing national immigration crackdown. Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey was joined by Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier on Thursday to announce support to law enforcement officers in the state. “If you throw a brick, a firebomb or point a gun at one of our deputies, we will be notifying your family where to collect your remains because we will kill you, graveyard dead,” Ivey said. According to Uthmeier, some federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and Border Patrol agents from other parts of the U.S. have been left vulnerable after protesters leaked personal details or fami...

Congressman Jeff Hurd backs ICE enforcement: “We need to follow the law”

By Wylee Mitchell | KJCT8 News GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - “I don’t think this is a republican issue or democratic issue. This is an issue of economic security, national security, and we need to follow the law,” Congressman Jeff Hurd said. Despite ongoing ICE protests across the country, the Department of Homeland Security said they will continue to crack on illegal immigration. Congressman Hurd represents the 3rd District in Colorado, which includes Mesa County. He said removing criminals who are in the country illegally should be a top priority. “Being here in the United States illegally is a is a violation of federal law. But I think what we’ve seen is certainly a focus on the individuals that are here illegally, that have committed additional crimes.” While we may not...

Neurologists on a vaccine team? China’s early COVID patent fuels cover-up suspicions

By Steven Richards and John Solomon | Just The News One of the smoking guns in the ongoing Trump administration probe into the COVID-19 cover-up is evidence suggesting that the Chinese suspected the novel virus may have neurological symptoms just weeks after it was officially identified, despite the fact that coronaviruses, historically, primarily affect the respiratory and digestive systems.  Specifically, two scientists listed as authors on the first Chinese patent for a COVID-19 vaccine—that remarkably came about a month after the virus crossed the border into the U.S.—are affiliated with a neuroscience institute in Beijing that works closely with the Chinese military.  The presence of these two researchers on the early 2020 vaccine patent in China is puzzling to federal i...

Israel launches precision military strike targeting Iran’s nuclear program

By Ross O'Keefe | Washington Examiner Israel conducted a military operation targeting Iran’s nuclear program on Thursday, hours after President Donald Trump cautioned Israel against one. Details of the damage Israel inflicted are still being assessed, and Israeli leaders warned their own population immediately after the strike that they could be on the receiving end of a retaliatory attack. Trump warned that a strike could happen earlier on Thursday but still held out hope for the United States and Iran to reach a diplomatic resolution regarding its nuclear program. “We remain committed to a Diplomatic Resolution to the Iran Nuclear Issue! My entire Administration has been directed to negotiate with Iran. They could be a Great Country, but they first must co...

Parker: We need a national, armed citizen militia now

By Dale Parker | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice I am not surprised at the result of the efforts of people in our state to banish firearms. No one should be surprised at the open contempt for our God given rights, protected in our Bill of Rights, that was demonstrated by requiring Ken DeGraaf to cover part of our Constitution. There is no remedy for this at the state levels.  We have to go on the offense and enact recognition of these God given rights to self protection.  The way our 2nd Amendment was penned has been glossed over for 200 years because there was no need after the American Revolution to flesh out what the Founders intended. It was recognized and taken for granted that the right to possess all arms belonged to the citizens of our country and not j...
