House panel plans to raise SALT deduction cap for members in blue states

By Jacob Adams | Daily Signal House Republicans are proposing to raise the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap to $30,000, up from its current rate of $10,000. The move was announced on Monday by the House Ways and Means Committee, chaired by Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo. The deduction would apply to single and joint filers who make $400,000 or less per year. The move would be a huge win for Republican members of Congress in blue states, who stand to benefit the most from the raise, given that blue states usually have higher state income tax rates.  The change in tax policy is expected to be hotly debated, given that some Republicans view the tax deduction as ultimately a form of federal subsidizing of blue state taxation policies. The t...

David Hogg says DNC in process of removing him as vice chairman

By Brady Knox | Washington Examiner Democratic National Committee Vice Chairman David Hogg accused the organization of trying to remove him from his position. On Monday, Hogg announced that the DNC commenced an effort to fast-track his removal as vice chairman. Hogg, an immediately controversial leader, found his position on shaky ground last month after he pledged his group Leaders We Deserve would primary Democratic members of Congress he perceived as ineffective, especially older ones. His comment was viewed as violating the DNC’s commitment to “neutrality” and, in his eyes, triggered an effort to remove him from within the organization. “Today, the DNC took its first steps to remove me from my position as Vice Chair At-Large,” Hogg said in a statement. “Whi...

Tomi Lahren reports Nike won’t say if it’s funding radical transgender study on young boys

By Breitbart TV | Breitbart On Monday’s “Alex Marlow Show,” Outkick’s “Tomi Lahren Is Fearless” host Tomi Lahren discussed reporting on Nike. Lahren stated, “[A]llegedly, Nike is funding a study — or helped fund a study which, basically, in essence, would debilitate young boys, puberty blockers, hormone therapy … at a young age and say, okay, well, if we do this at such a young age, then they won’t have a competitive advantage.” READ THE FULL STORY AT BREITBART

Trump arrives in Saudi Arabia to kick off high stakes middle east trip

By Leif Le Mahieu | Daily Wire President Donald Trump arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday with a large delegation from his cabinet for meetings with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and other high-ranking Saudi officials. Air Force One landed at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh at around 9:49 a.m. local time after an escort from a pair of Saudi F-15 fighter jets. Once on the ground, Trump was greeted by Mohammed bin Salman, who then took him inside the airport for a brief welcome with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Energy Secretary Chris Wright. From the airport, Trump and the American delegation were brought to the Saudi Royal Court by an escort of Arabian horses. While speaking with the crown pr...

Medical school accreditor suspends ‘diversity’ requirements after Trump executive order

By  Breccan F. Thies | The Federalist A major medical school accreditor responsible for all graduate-level medical programs announced it would suspend some of its “diversity” requirements, roughly two weeks after President Donald Trump signed an executive order cracking down on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) requirements among accreditors. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) explained that it would be pausing some “diversity” requirements over “concerns” from “multiple constituents in several states” that they might violate state or federal law. “The ACGME has heard significant concerns from multiple constituents in several states and from federal Sponsoring Institutions about their ability to comply with some of the ACGME requirement...

The Business Times: Public trust demands Grand Junction councilman Jason Nguyen resign now

By The Business Times Staff This is the only statement which we can make related to a post from Jason in a private group on Facebook. There is no “context” to be parsed or question to be asked by what he meant with his post. What he thinks about a good percentage of the population of Grand Junction and how he views many businesses cannot be taken in error. The statement made by Jason Nguyen shows he despises and desires the economic ruination of many of the constituents he claims to represent. And if the members of the Grand Junction City Council, especially Jason’s two like-minded cohorts Anna Stout and Scott Beilfuss, don’t denounce his statement above and beyond the meaningless phrase “in the strongest possible terms” and call for his immediate resignation, then they should resign...

Pikes Peak Library District board seat draws high interest ahead of May 19 decision

By Brennan Kaufmann | Denver Gazette Nearly five months after the term expired for the Pikes Peak Library District's former Board of Trustees director, city and county officials will meet to discuss who to appoint to the open seat. The library liaisons for the Colorado Springs City Council and the El Paso County Commissioners are in charge of narrowing down the list of applicants and recommending who to appoint to the entire body. Lynette Crow-Iverson and Nancy Henjum oversee the process on the city side, while Carrie Geitner and Holly Williams serve on the county side. The four officials of the Joint Appointment Committee will meet May 19 at Colorado Springs City Hall to review the final list of applicants for the library and recommend the next board member. The appointment ...

Caldara: Time to see if Polis will choose his socialist friends or Colorado’s future

By Jon Caldara | Commentary, Denver Gazette There are only three jobs worth having in Colorado. The first is fortunately mine. Any person who can make a living by indulging his passion is beyond blessed. I somehow have provided for my family by fighting for personal and economic freedom in Colorado. Running Independence Institute, Colorado’s machine to promote liberty principles over party, politicians and special interests, is a dream come true. The next coolest job in Colorado is quarterback for the Denver Broncos, which, by the way, I would be totally awesome at. The only other job I’d want here would be governor, the most influential and powerful gig for changing policy and shaping the state’s future. And to be Jared Polis, a near billionaire to boot, would be a rip. I m...

Hamas releases last living American hostage Edan Alexander

By Brittany Bernstein | National Review Hamas on Monday released Edan Alexander, the last living American hostage in Gaza, marking a major milestone in the long-running negotiations between Israel, the terror group, and the United States that began when terrorists invaded Israel and kidnapped hundreds of civilians. Alexander, who holds duel Israeli-American citizenship, was handed over to representatives from the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Israeli military said. The Red Cross will deliver Alexander to a special Israeli military unit and he will then be taken to a reception facility in Reim for medical and psychological examinations before being reunited with his family and airlifted to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv. The terror group said Sunday it would rele...

Statewide and congressional contests heat up early as candidates line up for 2026

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics Colorado's political world is in as close to a lull as it's likely to get this cycle — six months past the 2024 general election, days after the end of this year's regular legislative session, and with just over a year to go until voters begin casting primary ballots. Major candidates for the state's most prominent and competitive 2026 contests have already emerged, but many are about to get more company. Like at the beginning of a fundraising quarter, the immediate aftermath of the General Assembly's 120 day session is prime calendar real estate to launch campaigns for higher offices, for a couple of reasons: State lawmakers finally again have some control over their schedule and can turn their attention to campaigning, while other hopefuls ca...
