Rep. Scott Bottoms declares to church, ‘I am going to run for governor’

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Rep. Scott Bottoms, rated as the second-most conservative member of the Colorado General Assembly, has indicated he will seek the Republican Party's nomination for governor. "I am going to run for governor," Bottoms told members of the Church at Briargate before beginning his weekly Sunday morning sermon. Bottoms, in addition to serving El Paso County in District 15 in the Colorado House, is lead pastor at the Church at Briargate in Colorado Springs, and indicated a desire for the church to hear his announcement first. "If I don't get elected, nothing changes, except probably 4-5 bitter sermons for the next few weeks after that," Bottoms said. He is rated by Colorado Liberty Scorecard as one of three legislators among 100 in 2024 to hav...

ICE planning to ramp up arrests of illegals in major U.S. cities after Trump takes office, sources say

By Camilo Montoya-Galvez, Fin Gómez | CBS Colorado The incoming Trump administration is planning to ramp up operations to arrest unauthorized immigrants across major U.S. cities next week after President-elect Donald Trump takes office, targeting "sanctuary" jurisdictions that limit cooperation with federal immigration officials, two sources familiar with the plans tell CBS News. The locations expected to be targeted by deportation teams from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement include those with large populations of immigrants, such as the Chicago area, one of the sources said. ICE officials in the Chicago area recently put out a request for agents to participate in the post-inauguration arrest operations, unbeknownst to top agency leaders in Washington, a U.S. off...

Biden pardons Mark Milley, Anthony Fauci, J6 committee members

By Anders Hagstrom  | Fox News President Biden pardoned Dr. Anthony Fauci, Gen. Mark Milley, and others who some speculated may have faced investigations under the incoming Trump administration on Monday. Biden's pardons come just hours before he is set to depart the White House and President-elect Trump takes the oath of office once again. The pardon also applies to a litany of people involved in the January 6 select committee investigation. In addition to the named individuals, the pardon applies to, "Members of Congress and staff who served on the Select Committee, and the U.S. Capitol and D.C. Metropolitan police officers who testified before the Select Committee." In clandestine operation, 20 wolves have been released in Pitkin and Eagle County

By Lindy Browning | Contributing Writer, Rocky Mountain Voice Residents in Pitkin and Eagle counties have some new international neighbors, a press release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife reads. Fifteen wolves from British Columbia — eight females and seven males — were rounded up by helicopter and darted from the air, then placed in pens while veterinarians examined and treated the wolves for parasites, and vaccinated them against rabies, canine distemper virus, canine adenovirus, canine parainfluenza virus and canine parvovirus. Along with the 15 wolves from British Columbia, the remaining members of the livestock-killing Copper Creek pack — a female and four pups — were released after being caught and penned at a wildlife sanctuary since last August.   “In British Columbia,...

Joondeph: It is time for the storm, bringing liberty, freedom and balance to Washington, D.C.

By Dr. Brian C. Joondeph | Commentary, American Thinker In my last column, I wrote about the new Independence Day, Jan. 20. This is when a corrupt and tyrannical administration exits Washington, D.C., for Delaware beaches or unwatchable and dying left-wing cable news shows. Such a housecleaning is long overdue. Thanks to former (that has a nice ring to it) President Joe Biden, America has 10-15 million new illegal aliens, mostly young men of military age, from virtually every country across the globe. Biden upped the national debt to over $36 trillion, with annual interest payments on this debt exceeding $1 trillion, more than we spend on defense. Crime is out of control, as exemplified by a New York City subway rider being set on fire and a flight attendant getting her throat sli...

WATCH LIVE: Donald J. Trump to be sworn in as 47th president

By Alix Martichoux | KDVR-TV Fox 31 News On a frigid holiday Monday in Washington, D.C., Donald Trump will take the oath of office for a second time to become the 47th president of the United States. The weather was expected to be so cold on Monday that the main ceremony was to be moved inside the Capitol Rotunda. The last time the swearing-in was moved indoors was in 1985 when President Ronald Reagan began his second term. Monday’s forecast calls for the lowest Inauguration Day temperatures since that day. The swearing-in is set to take place at noon ET. We’ll be streaming the ceremony live once it begins in the live player at the top of this story. READ THE FULL STORY AT KDVR-TV FOX 31 NEWS

Horn: Empowering Republican candidates in order to win elections

By Brita Horn | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice The main facet of the Colorado Republican Party is to help elect Republican candidates across the entire state. As the next leader of that party, my commitment to help elect Republican candidates is not an empty promise and I wanted to outline our plan, our commitment to candidates, with you. First, we will support our incumbents in vulnerable seats by sending a $20,475 check to our CU regents, district attorneys, state board of education members, and state representatives or $28,375 for state senators, the maximum contributions allowed by law. We will send these checks from closest in the prior election to least vulnerable for any incumbent whose election was within five percentage points in the prior election. We are committ...

Threats of another King Soopers strike heat up as contract expires

By Bernadette Berdychowski | The Denver Gazette The clock is ticking as contracts across the state expire between the union representing grocery workers in Colorado and Kroger, the parent company of King Soopers and City Market. It’s the first time the union has returned to settle a contract with Kroger since 2022, when negotiations sparked a strike and allegations the grocer colluded with Safeway with illegal non-poach agreements, which are still being settled through lawsuits filed by the state and the grocer’s union United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7. It also comes a month after the proposed merger between Albertsons and Kroger collapsed, which the UFCW Local 7 officials cheered. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DENVER GAZETTE

Senator praises Trump’s energy ‘dream team’ nominees, Wright and Burgum

By Breck Dumas | Fox Business Freshman Sen. Jim Justice began his first week on the job warning that America faces a "crisis" unless the country addresses its energy policies – and fast. But he expressed confidence in two of the nominees President-elect Trump has selected to tackle the issue. The Republican from West Virginia, who was sworn in several days later than other senators in order to complete his term as governor of the state, sits on the upper chamber's Energy & Natural Resources Committee, which held confirmation hearings for Trump's picks to lead the Department of Energy and the Department of the Interior this week. Trump's nominee for energy secretary, Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright, and the president-elect's pick for interior secretary, North Dakota Gov. Doug B...
