Gaines: Legislative Democrats do their business in darkness

By Cory Gaines | Commentary, Complete Colorado On Dec. 30, 2024, right prior to the legally-mandated deadline, the Executive Committee of the Colorado legislature held a hearing on Senate Bill 24-157.  If you don’t know it by number, this is the bill that, among other things, allows the legislature to avoid certain provisions of the Colorado Open Meetings Law, which privileges them in ways that almost no other governmental entity in this state enjoys.  This privilege extends beyond just legislative business, too.  Majority Democrats have already made use of the law to hold two closed caucus meetings. Vespa: With Biden out and Trump in, America is back

By Matt Vespa | Commentary, TownHall.com You've made it. You’ve survived Joe Biden's failed presidency. This joke of an administration has done nothing but set the world ablaze and make everyone poorer. But now, the work to rebuild our country begins on January 20 when Donald J. Trump is inaugurated once again as the 47th president of the United States. Unlike the past four years of misery, Townhall will cover our great revival under President Trump, but it won't be easy. Democrats in Congress and the mainstream media are going to do everything they can to disrupt and block Trump's America First and Make America Great Again agendas. They prefer the status quo and ignore the will of the American people, who, on November 5, 2024, gave Trump a mandate to restore American greatness an...

Horn announces key endorsements in Colorado Republican Party leadership race

By Rocky Mountain Voice staff More than two dozen Republican leaders in Colorado have lent their endorsements to Brita Horn, as the race for the Republican Party's leadership begins to heat up. The election of a chair, vice chair and secretary to head up the party is expected to take place sometime in mid to late March, a party insider told the Rocky Mountain Voice. Thus far, Horn is one of two announced candidates for party chair, decided by about 500 members of the party's central committee. A press release announcing the endorsements includes former and present state officials and candidates, current and present party leadership in the General Assembly, candidates for congress and many county party leaders, among others. “I am humbled and honored by the outcrying of support ...

As SB25-003 advances to committee, Wyoming is closely watching the aggressive semiauto weapon ban

By Mark Heinz | Cowboy State Daily A proposed sweeping ban on semiautomatic firearms in Colorado is part of a larger trend to that state becoming more urbanized than left-leaning, a Wyoming gun rights advocate said.  “I hope we and other groups can stop this, but it’s pretty bad,” said Mark Jones of Buffalo, who’s also the national director for Gun Owners of America.  Controversial gun control bills are nothing new in Colorado. During its 2024 session, the Colorado Legislature considered a ban on “assault weapons” (semiautomatic rifles with high-capacity ammunition magazines).  READ THE FULL STORY AT COWBOY STATE DAILY

Goodwin: Perpetual screwup Joe Biden spins and stumbles on his way out of the White House

By Michael Goodwin | Commentary, New York Post In his last week in office, Joe Biden is making a farewell tour of speeches to try to put a shine on his legacy.  It would be a tall order in any event, but because the president is a perpetual screwup, his effort is going off the rails.  Instead of polishing his record, he’s inadvertently highlighting what a total failure he’s been and why voters were right to elect Donald Trump.  Even as Biden paints himself as a big success, a Gallup survey captures the truth: Large majorities say America has gone backward in key areas during his watch. New wolfpack released into high society near Aspen in Pitkin County

By Lindy Browning | Contributing Writer, Rocky Mountain Voice Wolves arrived from British Columbia on Sunday, Jan. 12, and were released in Pitkin County; a county that actually voted to have them.  They have become residents of the affluent communities near Aspen and Snowmass. Since CPW can only release the wolves on state or private lands, as long as they have the landowners' permission, according to law, and since CPW has told audiences repeatedly in meetings this fall that Pitkin County does not have a large enough state-owned property to release, it is now clear that a private landowner has offered his privately owned large ranch to the wolf restoration effort.  Although CPW has not confirmed the wolves were released on private land about 6 miles south of Basalt, it became...

Netanyahu delays Gaza cease-fire vote, accusing Hamas of trying to back out in ‘last-minute crisis’

By Bradford Betz | Fox News Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday accused Hamas of backing out of a cease-fire deal to release hostages and bring a pause to more than a year of fighting in the Gaza Strip.  Netanyahu's office said Thursday his Cabinet won't meet to vote on the Gaza cease-fire deal until Hamas backs down from what it called a "last minute crisis." Netanyahu's office accused Hamas, without elaborating, of trying to go back on part of the agreement in an attempt "to extort last minute concessions."  READ THE FULL STORY AT FOX NEWS

CPW baiting bighorn sheep to relocate herd from Colorado Springs to Pueblo

By Norishka Pachot | KXRM-TV Fox 21 News A Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) biologist is leading a team to trap several bighorn sheep and relocate them to mountains near Pueblo. CPW terrestrial biologist Tyrel Woodward will be leading a team throughout the month of January to trap 20 bighorn sheep at an old quarry above Colorado Springs. On Tuesday, Jan. 14, CPW staffers John Barkowski and Joey Livingston helped distribute bales of hay and apple pulp to lure 150-member Rampart herd to a site where a net would be set up to catch 20 sheep. Douglas Co. passes resolution supporting Trump’s use of ICE and ‘safe and lawful deportation’ of illegals

By Noah Festenstein | Denver Gazette Douglas County is backing President-elect Donald Trump’s deportation plan, arguing it supports public safety, which contrasts with Denver, whose mayor has vowed to resist federal immigration agents deporting illegal immigrants in his city. On Tuesday, Douglas County commissioners unanimously approved a resolution embracing Trump’s “use of federal immigration and customs enforcement for the safe and lawful deportation of immigrants illegally in the United States,” the resolution states. “Open and insecure border policies and local sanctuary declarations and laws have resulted in a mass illegal migration into the United States," the resolution states, arguing "sanctuary" status has cost Colorado government entities over $350 million.
