Takeaways from Hawley report on secret service failures in first Trump assassination attempt

By Fred Lucas | The Daily Signal The Secret Service missed several opportunities to stop the first attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump in July, according to a Senate report released a day after the second such attempt on Trump’s life at his golf club in Florida.  Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., released a 22-page report Monday that says the Department of Homeland Security, the Secret Service, and the FBI all failed to answer the public’s questions about the first attempted assassination of Trump on July 13 during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. “In response, Senator Hawley personally visited the Butler, Pennsylvania rally site to interview whistleblowers, opened up a whistleblower tip line, and encouraged those with relevant information to te...

By Heidi Ganahl | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice In a staggering development, newly released data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reveals that nearly 530,000 migrants have flown into the United States and been paroled into the country under the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris administration's controversial CHNV mass parole program. In addition to this massive influx, about 813,000 more migrants have scheduled appointments through the CBP One app at ports of entry, where they will also be released into the U.S. These so-called "lawful pathways" are new processes created by the Harris administration to provide migrants a way into the country without being counted as illegal border crossings. While these individuals are not crossing the border unlawfully, the programs have dr...

Denver council OKs $6 million contract to Haven of Hope to aid immigrants

By Alexander Edwards | Denver Gazette The Denver City Council on Monday approved a $6 million contract for a group to manage the distribution of food and provide services for immigrants participating in the city's work program. The vote on the $6 million contract with Haven of Hope was postponed in late August and again last week after councilmembers grilled the Johnston administration and one member said it resulted in more questions than answers.  Those questions seemed to have been answered on Monday, when 12 councilmembers voted in favor of the contract, though Councilmember Serena Gonzales-Gutierrez pressed about the program’s sustainability.  READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DENVER GAZETTE

Deadline looms for packaging producers to register for new state-mandated recycling program

By Ed Sealover | The Sum & Substance In just two weeks, any substantially sized company that produces packaging sold within Colorado — from plastic to glass to wood — must be registered with a new industry-led organization that will soon begin charging fees to fund a statewide recycling system. The deadline comes more than two years after the Legislature approved the first-of-its-kind makeup for the funding and administration of the programs, and the deadline has been moved up nine months from what that law originally anticipated. And while the Circular Action Alliance is still working to determine how many companies will be affected by the fee, the watchdog Colorado Consumer Coalition estimates the total could be about 1,500.
