By John Ingold | The Colorado Sun The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment on Monday suspended testing of drinking water at the state laboratory, the latest twist in an expanding water-testing scandal that’s been going on for a year. The scandal involves at least two chemists accused of cutting corners and falsifying data on quality-assurance tests — essentially practice tests run to make sure their machines are working correctly. The state says it has no evidence that public health was threatened through falsified data on tests of actual water samples sent into the lab for analysis. “At no time did we find levels that we knew would pose an immediate threat to public health,” Dr. Ned Calonge, CDPHE’s chief medical officer, said in an interview. Denver eases deadlines for large building energy reduction compliance

By Scott Weiser | Colorado Politics, via The Gazette Denver has postponed a deadline for large building owners to comply with a major energy reduction plan and also terminated compliance targets due in three years. Denver’s Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency announced the series of actions on Monday. First, the "Energize Denver" target for 2025 compliance was moved to 2026, while the 2027 compliance target was eliminated. The 2030 final compliance target remains, but the city said that, if needed, buildings may establish an alternative timeline through the "Energize Denver" process. Suspected kidnapping in Pueblo prompts 40-mile police pursuit

By Lindsey Grewe | KKTV-TV CBS 11 A suspected kidnapping in Pueblo led to a 40-mile police chase, ending just outside the El Paso County jail. According to a Pueblo Police Department spokesperson, officers were called to a neighborhood on the city’s east side just before 4 a.m. Thursday on reports of a kidnapping. Family members at the scene told police that a man had driven off with his ex-girlfriend and wouldn’t let her out of the car. Police found the suspect and victim about 15 minutes later, still in the area of 2200 East 12th Street. The suspect sped off when he saw the officers, with the victim still in the car. To put this into perspective, in most other parts of the nation that number sits only at 4.2%.  This often creates hurdles for local communities planning for growth. The six-year struggle to acquire a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) parcel in Mesa County demonstrates this.
