Durango band teacher indicted on charges of sexual predator acts

By Jen Schumann, Rocky Mountain Voice On July 23, 2024, a Durango teenager told police that an adult male approached them online. He offered to engage in sexual acts with the 16-year-old.  The Durango Police Department quickly identified the suspect as 28-year-old local Benjamin Smith using information from the minor. After a swift investigation, detectives obtained and executed a search warrant at Smith's home this morning, resulting in his arrest and booking for Sexual Exploitation of a Child on July 25. Campaign spending nears $4M on Prop. 127, Colorado’s ban on hunting cougars, bobcats, and lynx

By Ali Longwell  | Post Independent The two issue committees fighting over the initiative, which seeks to ban the hunting of mountain lions, bobcats and lynx in Colorado, have collectively spent around $3.8 million in the campaign so far. This is based on information filed with the Colorado Secretary of State as of Thursday, Oct. 24. Wendy’s to close 140 restaurants by the end of the year

By Daniella Genovese  | Fox Business Fast food giant Wendy's is shuttering 140 underperforming locations through the end of 2024 as it looks to improve its "restaurant footprint and overall system health."  To counter the closures, though, the Ohio-based company is working to replace many of these units with "new restaurants at better locations with significantly improved sales and profitability," Wendy's CEO Kirk Tanner told analysts on its third quarter earnings call.  The company thoroughly reviewed individual restaurants to ensure they meet sales expectations and are profitable enough to support growth, and said that the locations closing are "outdated and in underperforming areas," with operating margins far below the system average, Tanner said. Judge orders Arizona Secretary of State to turn over names of voters who registered without proof of citizenship

By Brittany Bernstein | National Review Today’s ruling comes one month after Arizona secretary of state Adrian Fontes, a Democrat elected in 2022, revealed that a computer glitch had allowed the affected individuals to register to vote without providing proof of citizenship. The Strong Communities Foundation of Arizona, also known as EZAZ.org, sued the state under Arizona’s Public Records Law, arguing that the statute requires Fontes to turn over the list to members of the public who request it.
