Christie withdraws, Trump out to insurmountable lead in Iowa primary polling

Chris Christie, formerly the governor of New Jersey, has become the latest to withdraw from the Republican primary race for President. His criticism of President Donald Trump had been relentless throughout debates and on the campaign trail. On Wednesday, Jan. 10, he withdrew from the race five days before the Iowa caucuses. “I promise you this: I will make sure that in no way do I enable Donald Trump to ever be President of the United States again,” Christie posted on Twitter-X. “That’s more important than my own personal ambition.” Christie was polling at just 3 percent in the right-leaning Trafalgar Group poll entering Iowa, with Trump leading the field at 52 percent. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Halley were the closest in the field a...

Announcing the launch of new Colorado media platform: The Rocky Mountain Voice

CENTENNIAL, Colo. - Colorado is at a pivotal moment in time. It’s never been more critical than now to get real, unbiased news from a reliable source. Especially for conservatives. Many Coloradans don’t know the truth thanks to one-sided media and messaging, and few platforms for conservatives to get out their message. “The Rocky Mountain Voice is launching to ensure that the citizens of the Centennial state can be well informed and effectively engaged, and that 'the other side of the story' is told,” said Founder and President Heidi Ganahl. The Rocky Mountain Voice will build trust through the truth, inspire the next generation of Coloradans, always be pro-citizen, pro-liberty, pro-Colorado and honor our heritage of rugged individualism. Ganahl added: “We will not partici...

Don’t mark your calendar for March 7

Thank you in advance for staying home on Thursday, March 7, 2024. I know it’s such an imposition every other year to attend a few hours to meet with your neighbors to elect your precinct committee persons and delegates to the county assemblies. Make sure you have all your excuses lined up as to why you can’t participate in the Colorado Caucus. I know you would rather complain about how bad the candidates are for this next election cycle, rather than participate and help nominate your chosen candidate to run for office. I know a great Netflix series you are watching takes priority over your civic responsibility. I know you must wash your hair that night because the weekend is coming up. I know it will take at least a month to find a babysitter with such short notice. I know all the ex...

The IRS has confirmed that the 2024 TABOR refund checks will not be subject to income tax.

Source: thelobby-co.com The decision to not tax Coloradan’s 2024 TABOR refund checks comes after initial speculation that these refunds may have been taxable, causing concern among taxpayers across the state. CBS News Colorado was the first to report on the IRS's acknowledgment of this issue and their request for Colorado taxpayers to delay filing their 2024 taxes until a decision was reached. This confirmation was the result of a meeting between IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel and Colorado Governor Jared Polis where questions concerning the taxability were raised. This development marks the first time that the IRS has raised questions about the taxability of TABOR refunds since the Taxpayer Bill of Rights was passed by voters three decades ago. The Taxpayer Bill of Rights is a...

State Rep. Lynch steps up fight on fentanyl

State Rep. Mike Lynch, R-Wellington, the Minority Leader in the Colorado House, is hoping to expand his influence on fentanyl policy beyond the State of Colorado. Last weekend, he attended the National Conference of State Legislators, calling for an attention to border security as a first and crucial step in combating further spread of the fentanyl epidemic. The NCSL is a competitive selection process with Lynch being chosen among 25 legislators nationally. "I am deeply concerned about Colorado's growing deadly fentanyl crisis, and it is imperative that we address this issue head-on,” Lynch said. “The reasons behind the rapid rise of fentanyl in Colorado are clear: America's weak borders, Mexican drug trafficking, cheap drugs used in making fentanyl shipped from China, and Colorad...

UN Security Council to vote on a resolution demanding Houthi rebels stop attacks on Red Sea shipping

By EDITH M. LEDERER - Associated Press | Source: Denver Gazette UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. Security Council demanded an immediate halt to attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on ships in the Red Sea in a resolution adopted Wednesday that implicitly condemned their main weapons supplier -- Iran. The resolution, sponsored by the United States and Japan, was approved by a vote of 11-0 with four abstentions – Russia, China, Algeria and Mozambique. It condemns “in the strongest terms” at least two dozen attacks carried out by the Houthis on merchant and commercial vessels, which the resolution says are impeding global commerce and undermining navigational freedom. For consumers shopping for an EV, new rules mean fewer models qualify for a tax credit

By ALEXA ST. JOHN - Associated Press | Source: The Gazette DETROIT (AP) — U.S. consumers looking to get a tax credit on an electric vehicle purchase have fewer models to choose from under new rules that limit the countries where automakers can buy battery parts and minerals — a potential blow to efforts to reduce planet-warming emissions from autos. The Inflation Reduction Act signed into law in 2022 expanded tax credits ranging from $3,750 to $7,500 for purchases of new and used EVs, an effort by the Biden administration to stoke demand toward its goal that half of all new vehicle sales be electric by 2030. But qualifying for the credits depends on requirements related to their battery makeup and minerals that get tougher each year. As of Jan. 1, new rules favor U.S. domestic mat...

Why are there RINOs but no DINOs?

Democrats don’t trash their own party members for being “insufficiently” woke, a Socialist or a leftist, while Republicans routinely dismember their own party members for being “insufficiently” Conservative, anti-tax, anti-abortion and so on. Republicans attacking their fellow GOPers as Republicans in Name Only (RINO) has no parallel stigma on the other side – Democrats in Name Only (DINO.) That’s because the Democrats have learned they win when they charge as a single fighting unit. Republicans are too often fragmented into warring factions. If only Republicans put the same passion into supporting their Republican candidates that they pour into sabotaging and undermining them.  The sainted Mike Rosen, dean emeritus of Denver talk show hosts, schooled his vast audience for ma...

US House Republican hardliners challenge Johnson over spending deal

By: David Morgan | Source: The Gazette WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson faced his first direct challenge from his own caucus on Wednesday, as hardline conservatives blocked a Republican bill to protest his bipartisan spending deal with top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer. A dozen far-right Republicans, mostly members of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus, joined Democrats to defeat an unrelated measure allowing debate and votes on passage of Republican resolutions opposing Biden policies on electric vehicles and other topics. Members of the House of Representatives group, who hope to impose lower spending and border restrictions, said they were voting to protest Johnson's $1.59 trillion top-line spending deal with Schumer, which has raised h...
