Colorado realtor says Fed’s interest rate cut “a good time to make big purchases, especially homes”

By Michael Abeyta | CBS Colorado A Colorado real estate broker says Wednesday's announcement by the Federal Reserve that they are lowering the interest rate by .5 percentage points was somewhat expected and that he was somewhat ready for it. "I thought the Fed was going to be a little bit more conservative and do a 0.25 percentage cut. However, the 0.5 is where we're at. So not shock, not surprise," said Brett Weinstein, the CEO of Guide Real Estate. That means it costs consumers less in interest to borrow money. READ THE FULL STORY AT CBS COLORADO

Arguments begin in legal battle over potential TikTok ban before federal appeals court

By Patrick Maguire, Scott MacFarlane, Kaia Hubbard | CBS Colorado A long-brewing legal standoff over the popular video-sharing app TikTok got underway on Monday, with arguments in the challenge against a possible ban kicking off.  TikTok and its parent company ByteDance have been under fire by U.S. officials for years over warnings that China's government could gain access to users' data and use it to manipulate or spy on Americans. But a renewed push against the app gained momentum in Congress earlier this year, as lawmakers approved a foreign aid package that included provisions requiring it to be sold or be banned from U.S. app stores. President Biden signed the legislation into law in April, teeing up a countdown for TikTok's sale. READ THE FULL STORY AT CBS COL...

Aurora City Council votes to crack down on vehicle registration with impoundments

By Tori Mason | CBS Colorado In a move to enhance safety and enforce vehicle regulations, the Aurora City Council approved an ordinance for impoundment penalties. The measure, which passed with a 6-2 vote, mandates the impoundment of vehicles if a police officer determines the vehicle is being operated by an unlicensed driver, is not properly registered, and lacks insurance.  In July, the Aurora Police Department told CBS Colorado that when a vehicle is pulled over for not having a plate, the driver usually gets a ticket to appear in court.
