Lawmakers grill Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold about possible security breach

By Shaun Boyd | CBS Colorado Colorado lawmakers grilled Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold on Friday at the state capitol about her handling of a possible security breach. Hundreds of passwords to election equipment were leaked days before Election Day and could have severely impacted half of Colorado's counties.   The passwords were for voting equipment across the state, and they were posted on the Colorado Secretary of State's website. There are still a lot of questions about what happened, which is why Griswold says she has hired an outside firm to investigate. The Denver District Attorney's Office is also looking into the leak to determine if a crime was committed. CDOT to close stretch of recently completed Northern Colorado express lanes until 2028

By Dillon Thomas | CBS Colorado A portion of recently opened express lanes in Northern Colorado will be closed until 2028. The Colorado Department of Transportation says the closure is necessary in order to safely continue their construction project linking Northern Colorado and the Denver metro area. Starting Friday night, CDOT will close the southbound express lane from CO 60 to CO 56 near Berthoud. That stretch was opened earlier this year to commuters after years of construction. Though more than 18 miles of express lanes in both directions will remain open between Johnstown and Fort Collins, around two miles will be closed until the project is completed around 2028. That incident resulted in 54 people being treated for rabies and 12 dogs being euthanized. CBS Colorado has learned - from an open records request - it isn't an isolated case.  In 2020, another imported puppy exposed two dozen people to rabies, including Drew and Christine Frank, who were in some ways the canaries in the coal mine. ‘Something needs to be done’: Smash-and-grab burglaries on the rise

By Karen Morfitt | CBS Colorado Law enforcement agencies are seeing a spike in smash-and-grab burglaries across the northern part of the Denver metro area and up into Northern Colorado. The Boulder County Sheriff's Office is looking for what they are calling the Panda Bandit. Investigators say three young suspects, one dressed in a panda costume, burglarized a gas station in Superior and took vape products. With Thanksgiving nearing, carrot E. coli outbreak offers new concerns for Coloradans

By Alan Gionet | CBS Colorado Word of yet another E. coli outbreak has shaken shoppers 10 days ahead of Thanksgiving. More than a dozen brands of organic carrots are now recalled with warnings to consumers not to eat them. One person is known to have become ill in Colorado, but the recalled products were all produced by Grimmway Farms and sold under a variety of brand names. They were shipped directly to retail distribution centers nationwide in the United States. There are 39 known cases total across the country in 18 states with one death. By Joe Ruch | CBS Colorado Colorado's topography is unique. The lowest point is on the Eastern Plains with an elevation of 3,317 feet where the Arikaree River flows out of Yuma County. The highest point is atop Mount Elbert with an elevation of 14,438 feet (about half the cruising altitude of a commercial jet).   This significant difference in elevation can help play a pivotal role in deciding which place will be the big winner during a snowstorm. Leader of auto thefts from Colorado airport lots sentenced to prison

By  Logan Smith | CBS Colorado A 25-year-old man who police believe oversaw the theft of dozens of vehicles from the parking lots at Denver International Airport recently pleaded guilty and received a 20-year prison sentence. David Nava-Delgado led a "prolific" group that stole at least 59 vehicles from DIA lots between February 2022 and March 2023, according to prosecutors. The group often took Ford F-150 Raptors which they drove into the fronts of businesses to steal ATMs. They attempted or completed this type of burglary 31 times, per prosecutors.  The group also stole vehicles in Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Boulder, Denver, Jefferson County and Logan County.
