Whitmer met Trump at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in southeast Michigan, where the president stopped during his 100 days celebration to announce that the base, which was at risk of shutting down, would receive a new fighter squadron. During his remarks, Trump thanked the governor for her work “trying to save” the base, and then asked her to speak. Whitmer approached the podium and said she “hadn’t planned to speak” at the event.
