Has AI Begun Transforming Employment in the Colorado Legal Services Industry?

By Mike O’Donnell | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice The two biggest ongoing threats to democracy in Colorado are the less-than-competent Secretary of State, Jena Griswold, and Colorado’s Supreme Court. You will recall that last year both blocked the inclusion of Donald Trump’s name on the November 2024 presidential ballot in Colorado only to have the nation’s Supreme Court definitively overrule both. I didn’t notice anyone getting into trouble or apologizing for those blatant attacks on democracy but it managed to get me thinking (no mean feat) about the legal profession in general and whether it was changing in Colorado in the face of artificial intelligence (AI). Admittedly, I’m personally not a big fan of AI because, just like history, it is crafted by the victors / the ...

“Harris Water Time” and the Colorado River Compact’s century of lessons

By Steve Harris | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice Any good water management effort, process or project takes what I like to call “water time”—if you expect a water negotiation to take one year, add a zero because it will more likely consume 10! This I now officially and publicly trademark as “Harris Water Time,” patent pending. Yet somehow the sturdy Colorado River Compact seems to turn my “water time” on its head—a complex, controversial interstate compact was negotiated in a year and has withstood over 100! The Colorado River Compact split the basin into Upper and Lower regions, shaping water rights for seven states. Photo source: U.S. Geological Survey (2016a). To explore this confounding story, my young friend suggested I write a series of articles on the Com...

Free speech and consequences: CU Boulder lecturer and Vail teacher face scrutiny over Kirk assassination remarks

By Shaina Cole | Contributing Writer, Rocky Mountain Voice Editor’s note: This story was updated on Sept. 23 to include a statement from CU Boulder spokesperson Nicole Mueksch. Freedom of speech is one of America’s most cherished rights. But too often it is misunderstood as a free pass to say anything without consequence. The killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk earlier this month has made that painfully clear. Across the country, people who publicly cheered Kirk’s death — whether at work, online, or in classrooms — soon found out that words can carry real consequences. Some were fired. Others were suspended. Many faced a wave of anger from the public. In Colorado, questions about free speech and accountability are now playing out in two very different settings. One invol...

How early Christians stood against Rome, Part 2

By Russ Minary | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice Editor’s note: Douglas County resident Russ Minary first wrote this devotional in 2013 and felt prompted to share it now, in a season when revival is stirring across communities. This is Part 2 of a two-part series. Read Part 1 here. Every spiritual movement takes place in a practical way, from person to person, in the real world. Miracles did take place, the faith spread, and the church grew, for a few reasons which I provide here. Please note that this is entirely conjecture, but I believe that it aligns with Scripture and historical fact, and the context of the times in which it took place.   Here are nine principles that were used by the early church to survive and thrive in a world that was openly hostile to th...

The fruit of true martyrdom: What Stephen, Bonhoeffer and Kirk reveal

By Michael A. Hancock | Commentary, Undercurrent Substack The Test of True Martyrdom Is in the Fruit It Bears Martyrdom is a word thrown around with reckless ease. In our political and cultural vocabulary, anyone who dies for a cause is immediately baptized as a martyr. But that is a sloppy use of a sacred word. There is a difference — a decisive one — between dying for an idea and dying for Christ. And the difference shows itself in the fruit. The first Christian martyr, Stephen, wasn't executed for a partisan position or a social grievance. He was stoned because he would not soften the charge that the religious elite had betrayed and murdered the "Righteous One." He looked up to heaven and declared that he saw Christ standing at the right hand of God. His sermon enraged the Sanh...

How early Christians stood against Rome, Part 1

By Russ Minary | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice Editor’s note: After reading a recent RMV article and interview with Chris Goble, Douglas County resident Russ Minary was reminded of a devotional he first wrote in 2013 for the pastor of a large Colorado congregation. With revival on many hearts today, he is sharing it with Rocky Mountain Voice readers. This is Part 1 of a two-part series. Read Part 2 here. “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in t...

The Sword of the Spirit: Defense in the Advance

By Drake Hunter | Commentary, Elevating Life Church "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." ~ Psalm 119:11 ~ It’s football season in Colorado, and for us Broncos fans, there’s nothing like watching a defense stand tall. Sure, a flashy offense may steal the highlights, but every fan knows the truth: defense wins championships. Some of the most unforgettable Bronco victories weren’t just about touchdowns; they were about stops, interceptions, and holding the line when it mattered most. Now, imagine this: if truth represents the ball in play, the one thing that must cross the goal line to score points, then where does defense fit into the game of life for the Christian? Is a believer called to play defense, holding ground so the enemy can’t advance?...

From CSU Canvas Stadium to classrooms: Colorado faces a culture reckoning

By Jen Schumann | Rocky Mountain Voice At CSU’s vigil for Charlie Kirk, speakers moved from grief to courage, tying the moment to a generational fight for truth. In Fort Collins, Canvas Stadium was bathed in light as thousands raised their phones in unison, a modern candlelit vigil for Charlie Kirk. The glow stretched across the stands, a silent tribute led by the students he had inspired. Thousands filled CSU’s Canvas Stadium for the Charlie Kirk vigil. “Conservatives and Christians on college campuses were told to be quiet, but Charlie gave us our voice to stand up for what we believe in, to love America and to love Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, our king,” said Gabe Saint, president of Turning Point USA’s Wyoming chapter. He described hundreds of students reaching...

Charlie Kirk’s assassination was a shot heard around the world—sparking revival

By Scott Shamblin | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice On April 19th, 1775 the opening shot of the battles of Lexington and Concord sparked the American Revolutionary War. Commonly referred to as the "Shot heard round the world," ultimately leading to the birth of the United States on July 4th, 1776, and the signing of the Declaration of Independence on August 2, 1776. The men who wrote the declaration knew that ultimately this would mean they'd be hunted by the tyrant, King George III. Yet they accepted this fact with extreme courage. This act of treason against the royal crown was for the sake of freedom. They wanted to be able to practice Christianity, without the King's control. The historian David McCullough during a speech in 2005 stated that "At the time of the Revol...
