Staff and Students Credited With Saving Lives in Evergreen High School Shooting

By Heather Willard | KDVR FOX31 DENVER (KDVR) — More details are emerging about how a 16-year-old student carried out a shooting last Wednesday at Evergreen High School, leaving two other students with critical injuries and killing himself. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that the first deputy was dispatched to the school at 12:24 p.m., “shortly after calls began to flood 911.” The agency said deputies arrived at the high school within two and a half minutes, and that during that time, the 16-year-old shooter had fired multiple rounds inside of Evergreen High School and injured a student. “While deputies responded quickly, the actions taken by teachers, staff, and students inside the school undoubtedly saved lives,” the sheriff’s office said. “They relied on th...

Reps. Gabe Evans, Lauren Boebert and Jeff Crank on Tuesday issued a joint letter demanding Colorado Gov. Jared Polis work with state legislators to “repeal soft-on-crime laws fueling Colorado’s rising crime.” The representatives pointed to several instances in which they say Colorado’s laws Polis himself signed “undermine law enforcement’s ability to keep communities safe.” The lawmakers’ call also echoes previous calls ahead of August’s special legislative session to address crime laws. The mayor said the $1.66 billion plan should get the city back on good financial footing. The mayor said the way he has the numbers mapped out should mean no more cuts to personnel. He did have to make some cuts to programs and technology used by city workers. “Remember, we announced first the personnel savings. Today, we will announce $77 million in savings and services, supplies, contracts. On Sunday evening, Jefferson County Public Schools sent a press release stating: “Evergreen High School will be closed the week of September 15. District leadership is working on a plan to return to learning and will have that finalized later in the week.” Two students were shot and taken to the hospital in critical condition. Fire Destroys Loveland Family’s Tribute to Charlie Kirk

(KDVR) — Vandals burned a Loveland family’s memorial to Turning Point USA CEO Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed on Wednesday, Sept. 10, during a tour event at Utah Valley University. The family is not releasing their location or full names due to concern for their safety. They told FOX31 the vandals set the fence on fire at approximately 11:15 p.m. as five children slept inside the home. “When they burnt that fence, that fire could’ve went into that house and it could’ve really harmed somebody,” said one family friend. Thursday marked 24 years since such a tragic day in the nation’s history and those who come out to the stair climb go up the stairs at the amphitheater to pay tribute to the firefighters and everyone killed back in 2001. On Tuesday, a Safeway spokesperson told FOX31 that the 10 stores are expected to cease operations before or on Nov. 7, which comes after a “strategic consolidation” through merging the Intermountain and Denver division into a Mountain West Division. “We continuously evaluate the performance of our stores, and occasionally, after long and careful deliberation, it becomes necessary to make the difficult decision to close certain locations.
