Burning Man event in Las Animas County cancelled over ‘non-consensual fentanyl drugging’ concerns

By Aaron Vitatoe | KKTV LAS ANIMAS COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - A suspected attempted drugging involving fentanyl forced the cancellation of a Burning Man event in southern Colorado. Apogaea is a Burning Man-sanctioned event held every June in Colorado, according to their website. Over the weekend, they were set to hold their event in Las Animas County near Trinidad. As the weekend kicked off, though the Apogaea Board of Directors instructed everyone to leave the event, and asked anyone on the way to turn around, for safety reasons. On Sunday, they confirmed the reason for the cancellation was suspected non-consensual drugging involving fentanyl. Nearly $100 million renovations set to start on oldest Colorado Springs high school

Colorado Springs District 11 is planning a years long project to revamp the Palmer High School in downtown. The district held an open house Tuesday evening to discuss the plans. It drew in dozens of people who were interested in learning more about what the renovations look like, what they mean for the school, and how it will impact the surrounding community. 13-year-old brings gun on campus, threatens classmates at Grand Junction middle school

Officers were called to Bookcliff Middle School Friday morning on reports of a student with a weapon who had been making threatening statements to other kids. The school was put on a shelter-in-place order while police investigated. “Officers quickly located the handgun and took the student into custody,” the police department said. Here in El Paso County, we’re waiting for the next steps for another potential store in Palmer Lake. “I think it’s put Johnstown on the map,” said Johnstown Mayor Michael P. Duncan. Mayor Duncan has been in his seat since April. He wasn’t around for the planning of the Buc-ee’s but his city is reaping the benefits of it being open. “We’re pulling in about $1 million a year. Pueblo King Soopers union workers vote to authorize strike, joining several more around Colorado

According to the UFCW Local 7 Union’s social media, King Soopers Pueblo Meat workers voted 100% to authorize an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strike, and King Soopers Pueblo Retail workers voted 97% in favor of authorizing a ULP strike. This vote comes after Colorado Springs workers authorized a strike on Friday, joining employees of Metro Denver, Boulder, Parker and Broomfield, who also voted to approve the strike. Coming at the behest of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Buckley Space Force Base in Aurora is the first military installation in the country utilized for this purpose. Army releases details on Colorado Springs man who died in Las Vegas Cybertruck explosion

By Blake Sammann | KKTV-TV CBS 11 The U.S. Army released more details Thursday on the man who Las Vegas police say died in a Cybertruck explosion outside a Trump hotel Wednesday. According to a U.S. Army spokesperson, Matthew Allen Livelsberger enlisted in the Army in January 2006 and served until March 2011. After short stints in the National Guard and Army Reserve, they said Livelsberger became an active-duty special forces soldier in December 2012. Angela Carney said her son, Devin, died in April 2021 due to an allergic reaction to fentanyl. She said the tragedy is still taking a toll on her. “I cry every day, just wishing that I could hear Devin’s voice once more, just one more time, to see his smile,” she said. Colorado seizes nearly 2.7 million fentanyl pills in 2024, setting new record with month to go

By Lindsey Grewe | KKTV-TV CBS 11 The state of Colorado has broken an unwanted record: with one month still to go, law enforcement has already seized more fentanyl pills statewide than in any other year past. “It is an unfortunate record to set,” said Jonthan Pullen, special agent in charge with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Rocky Mountain Field Division (RMFD). “... While we have seen seizure numbers trending lower in other parts of the country, Colorado seems to be consistently at or near record highs for the number of fake pills seized.” To date in 2023, RMFD says it has collected nearly 2.7 million fentanyl pills, up from last year’s record-setting 2.61 million pills.
