Colorado Springs Leaders Push Back on AG’s Space Command Lawsuit

(KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Chamber & Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and two local governing bodies are speaking out in opposition to a lawsuit over Space Command. Back in October, the Colorado Attorney General's Office announced a lawsuit against the Trump Administration over the decision to relocate U.S. Space Command to Alabama. While local officials support Space Command staying in Colorado Springs, many spoke out saying that a lawsuit against the presidency was not the right path forward. Opponents of the law say that it will do nothing more than impose long and costly waiting periods for law-abiding people. “This law won’t stop crime — it will only stop Coloradans from exercising their constitutional rights,” said Ray Elliott, president of CSSA. “Colorado already has background checks. (KRDO) – A Lone Tree man will serve four years in prison after pleading guilty to possessing and distributing over 200,000 images of child pornography, the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s (DA) Office said. Following his release from prison, 28-year-old Daryl Henry Joe, Jr. will be required to serve ten years of probation. In March of 2024, Lone Tree police received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, regarding images of child pornography the agency had traced to a computer at Joe’s address in Lone Tree. (KRDO) - On Tuesday, the Colorado Springs City Council decided to roll the dice on roughly $20 million in funding, according to the city's estimates. It comes after Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed executive order D 2025 - 005, which includes blanket statewide housing requirements aimed at improving affordability. (KRDO) - It's been six months since three people were indicted after allegedly staging a hate crime to help a Black Colorado Springs candidate, Mayor Yemi Mobolade, win an election. On Friday, a judge denied a motion to dismiss, signalling that the case will move forward and ultimately be heard by a jury. In April 2023, just before the Colorado Springs mayoral election, video of a burning cross in front of then-candidate Yemi Mobolade's campaign sign was sent to media outlets. (KRDO) – An airport near Denver is being used by the U.S. Coast Guard to transport Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainees to Texas and California for deportation, our Denver news affiliate 9NEWS has confirmed. According to 9NEWS, at least three large U.S. Coast Guard cargo planes were spotted at Centennial airport in Englewood last Thursday, Friday and Monday. NRA joins El Paso County man in suing to stop voter-approved Colorado excise tax on guns, ammo

(KRDO) – The National Rifle Association (NRA) is joining a number of gun rights organizations and an El Paso County resident in filing a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality a 6.5% excise tax on guns and ammo sold in Colorado, set to go into effect today, April 1. Proposition KK was passed by voters in November. It creates a 6.5% excise tax on firearm-related purchases in the state of Colorado. Firearm dealers, manufacturers and ammunition sellers are responsible for paying the new tax on their retail sales. The tax revenue will be used to fund crime victim support services, mental health services for veterans and youth, and school safety programs.
