Colorado Libertarians will field candidates in 7 of 8 U.S. House seats

By BRIAN PORTER | The Rocky Mountain Voice COLORADO SPRINGS -- The Colorado Libertarian Party will field candidates in seven of eight U.S. House races in the general election, Chairwoman Hannah Goodman announced here Saturday during the party's state convention. No candidate will be fielded in Colorado's 1st District, where Democrat Diana DeGette took 80.3% support in the 2022 general election. In the 2nd District, Gaylon Kent will run for the seat held by Democrat Joe Neguse, who gathered 70.0% of the vote in the 2022 election. Kent was the Libertarian nominee for U.S. Senate in 2014 and the nominee in the 3rd District in 2016 and 2018. Libertarian Party notes growth in relevancy, influence as state convention opens

By BRIAN PORTER | The Rocky Mountain Voice COLORADO SPRINGS -- The relevancy of the Colorado Libertarian Party has advanced in the past year in several measurable ways, State Chairwoman Hannah Goodman said as she opened the party's annual state convention here Saturday. One of those measurements have been increased media exposure, she said, including on local TV programming. "We have had more press exposure than in a long time," she said. By BRIAN PORTER | The Rocky Mountain Voice Nineteen candidates seeking a place on either a Democratic or Republican ballot in a Congressional District primary made the secretary of state's Tuesday petition deadline, with thus far only four of those petitions verified as sufficient. Once a petition has been filed with the secretary of state, signatures are verified and staff deems whether the signatures are sufficient or insufficient to earn a place on the ballot, pending other conditions of the candidate's political party. Democratic Rep. Joe Neguse submitted the only petition in the 2nd District. House Bill 1292, by Democrat Reps. Elisabeth Epps and Tim Hernandez, to prohibit “assault weapons” will be heard by the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday at the Old State Library. The bill has a broad definition of “assault weapon”, which could make rifled barrel pistols and rifles illegal, along with pistol grip shotguns, and many other guns. Plea deal gives former producer at Sounds True lenient sentence for possession of 6,000 images of sexual child abuse

By Heidi Ganahl | Rocky Mountain Voice Mitchell Clute, 57, a former senior producer and editor at Sounds True, has agreed to a plea deal, according to various media reports, on charges of possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material. He was arrested in July, following an investigation by the Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab, which discovered child sexual abuse material downloaded from an IP address associated with Clute's residence on Dewey Avenue. Initially facing 11 felony charges, including sexual exploitation of a child, Clute accepted a very lenient plea deal last week, pleading guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of a child, both class 4 felonies.
